The Winnipeg Jets’ postseason disappointment has once again set the stage for significant changes within the organization, and this summer, one of their depth forwards is making headlines with a major career move.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, who has spent the last two seasons working hard in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose, is now taking his talents overseas after his North American contract came to an end. Known for his speed and versatility, Jonsson-Fjallby provided valuable depth for the Jets during his time in the NHL, but consistent opportunities at the top level proved elusive.

At just 27 years old, Jonsson-Fjallby’s journey has been marked by perseverance and adaptability, traits that have earned him respect throughout the hockey world. Now, as he embarks on a new chapter with Brynas IF in the Swedish Hockey League, questions arise about what the future might hold for this determined forward. Could a strong showing in Sweden pave the way for an NHL return? As the hockey community watches closely, Jonsson-Fjallby’s move serves as a reminder of the unpredictable paths professional athletes often take in pursuit of their dreams.

The Winnipeg Jets fell short in the post-season once again, and after that exit, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby has signed a deal overseas to depart the NHL following two straight seasons in the AHL with the Winnipeg Jets affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby has played in just 99 NHL games over his career, but in that time, he served as fantastic depth for the Winnipeg Jets, giving them a great depth option down in their lineup.

However, the 27-year old hasn’t played in the NHL since 2023/24, a season in which he tallied 2 goals and 5 points over 26 games played, posting a solid +6 differential in that time, with some believing he could be a bottom-six fixture in this team for years to come.

Since then, the former fifth-round draft pick of the Washington Capitals has stuck with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL, and now, with his contract in North America coming to an end, he has officially signed with Brynas IF in the Swedish Hockey League.

With a career 10 goals and 23 points in 99 games played, Jonsson-Fjallby never quite got the chance to show what he was made of in the NHL, but at 27-years of age, he’s taking a chance in returning to Sweden, as the production there could potentially help him find his way back to the league one day.

Standing at 6-foot-1, Jonsson-Fjallby certainly has the size to compete at the next level, and with 57 points in the last two seasons in the AHL, he’s got the chance to be a solid contributor, so now, we will wait and see if he can star in Sweden and potentially get back to the NHL in the years to come.
