After a few civilised weeks of The Block, some drama is finally brewing. Let’s go girls!
But every dramatic scene seems to have two women at the centre of it: Western Australia couple, Han and Can.
The women have been a hot topic on the latest episodes of The Block, off the back of getting their first win for main ensuite week.
Despite all the teams hanging out in Sonny and Alicia’s caravan one episode, Han and Can chose to exclude themselves from the social setting.
“The girls like to keep to themselves. They’re pretty laser-focused I guess,” Sonny said.
“I think it would help them to sit around with us. It would help them realise everyone is fighting the same battles every day.”

Taz claimed that Han and Can didn’t show much interest in getting to know the other teams.
“They just keep to themselves so we don’t know much about them and they don’t know much about us,” he said in a confessional.
Mamamia spoke to the couple so we could hear their side of the drama.
Regarding their tendency to distance themselves from the other contestants, the couple told Mamamia that it was nothing personal — they simply spent their evenings planning their build for the next day rather than socialising.
“In the early weeks, our evenings were the only time we had to regroup with one another. Han was still recovering from her illness, and after not finishing in week one (something that really shook us), we knew we had to operate differently to stay on track,” they said.
“We love being social, but we also had to protect our health and our build. There was never any intention to distance ourselves, it was purely about survival in those high-pressure weeks.”
Another controversy emerged from another social outing that the girls didn’t attend.
Sonny claimed that when the women won for their bathroom reno, they didn’t thank their plumber, Tom. In the episode, Sonny said he alerted Tom, who said: “Geez, it would have been nice if they’d rung me to tell me.”
This story did not please the other contestants.
“In my opinion, it was poor taste,” Mat said.
“They were in need, he got them across the line, and they didn’t call him to say thank you. If you don’t water your garden, it’s not going to grow. You need to invest in the people who invest in you. That doesn’t fly well with me.”

Han and Can have clarified that they did a shoutout to Tom on their social media to thank him, and were extremely grateful for his help.
“We were, and still are, incredibly grateful to Tom. He stepped in at such a tough time for us, especially with Hannah in hospital, and his support meant the world,” they said.
“From our side, we absolutely thanked him both personally and publicly. His kindness and generosity in coming back when we needed it most is something we’ll always celebrate and appreciate.”
The couple believes that Sonny’s version of what happened was a ‘misunderstanding’.
“Sometimes what happens behind the scenes doesn’t make it to air, and the stress of the competition can create little misunderstandings between contestants,” Han and Can shared.
That said, they did admit to feeling ‘isolated’ during filming.
“In the very beginning it did feel a little isolating, simply because we were missing out on group dinners and hangouts while we were buried in planning and catch-up work. But it was never about not wanting to be included, it was just a necessity,” they said.
The couple assured us that the mood becomes a bit lighter between the teams as the show unfolds.
“Once we built up our team of trades and found more balance, things definitely improved. We were able to spend more time with the others and we built some really special friendships.”
Once the women were able to manage their time and stress, they formed close friendships.
“We genuinely got along with everyone, it was our little Block family and we will be bonded for life! We all stayed together for kick-on celebrations after filming and even got matching tattoos!” they said.
“But later in the season, we became especially close with Sonny and Alicia, our fellow flat-roofers. We supported each other through the highs and lows and built a special bond. They wear their hearts on their sleeves and so do we.”
Han and Can also addressed the tension with Foreman Dan. On this week’s episode, after Han arrived late to a restart, the site was shut down for two hours.
“Because it’s your third time [being late] we’re going to shut the site down,” he told Han on this week’s episode.

In another episode, Han accused Dan of acting differently in front of the camera, a claim that Han has since withdrawn.
“Emotions run high on The Block. In that moment, it really felt like things were being perceived differently while the cameras were rolling. But with perspective, we can say Dan’s job is a tough one,” Han said.
“He’s managing a huge site under massive pressure. We respect him and the role he plays in keeping everything moving, and looking back, we can see that he always had the build’s best interests at heart.”
Thankfully for the team, the mood with Dan is set to get better as the build continues.
“There were some passionate moments, which is only natural when you mix big personalities with tight deadlines, but over time we found our rhythm together and developed deep respect for one another.”
When asked what they wanted to set the record straight on, they said the episodes don’t always reflect the full scope of their experiences.
“What you see on TV is only a slice of the bigger picture. The edits capture the drama, which makes great television, but behind the scenes there was so much teamwork, laughter, and small wins that don’t always make it to air,” they said.
“We want people to know that while it was tough, it was also incredibly fun, and we’ll always be grateful for the friendships and memories that came out of it.”
