“Three first-year students and two second-year students were seriously injured, while two third-year students are still unreachable,” Principal Parikh added. Three family members of a doctor are also listed as missing.

Since we couldn’t identify the bodies that were brought in, we formed groups of students to call each person. That’s how we got information about the number of casualties.”

Forensic experts are now on scene to assist in identifying the victim.

Dhananjay Dwivedi, Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare and Officer on Special Duty at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, said the state government has set up DNA testing centres to speed up the process of identifying the victims. Families have been asked to provide DNA samples to help in the process.

“The medical student dormitory, the hospital staff quarters and several other residential areas are in the crash zone. Around 50 injured people have been taken to hospital and are in stable condition,” Dwivedi said.

“The plane crashed in the cafeteria area of the hostel, where many people were having lunch,” an eyewitness was quoted as saying by PTI news agency.
