MasterChef fans have had plenty of issues with this year’s season of the show. Whether it be the judges, the contestants, or the challenges, fans seem to think the 2025 season has been a bit of a letdown.

Now, viewers have shared their frustration after noticing a trend in the eliminations that they aren’t too fond of either. One Reddit user started the conversation, saying some contestants are given “too many chances” when they should be kicked out for “sub-par dishes”.

The Redditor said: “I’m noticing a trend where several contestants get by on sub par dishes and they somehow survive on to the next round. No innovation, no invention, no risks, safe dishes with safe elements.”

They continued, “The challenges are also boring, nothing exciting that makes people think or go crazy with their dishes.

“Kinda disappointed with the outcome of this season.”

Many others agreed, with one user responding and referencing the now-eliminated Rue, “Please note that I am several episodes behind, I’m in New Zealand, so she may have been eliminated, but Rue is the definition of this.

“It’s very frustrating seeing her land in eliminations repeatedly, being saved by someone who was slightly worse, and then she continues to do the same things and make the mistakes. Very annoying.”

Another said they were annoyed watching Tim and Snez as well, writing, “Tired of Tim making basic dishes…Really disappointed with Snez after last season, no innovation.”

“Even the episode where they had to do unusual presentations, all she could think of was karate chopping some toasted flat bread?” they added.

“Cmon, Tim took 1.5 hours to make grilled shrimp in E17 and even that was undercooked lol don’t forget the fried bulgogi burrito and the Pepsi pulled pork sandwich,” a third said. “Samira is hiding behind Middle Eastern dishes that only she seems to know of. There is nothing special about her cooking, and even the dishes she makes are not improved upon.

MasterChef Tim

“Beau is Alana/Darrsh/Declan tier, sometimes I forget he exists since they edit him out. Nothing blatantly wrong with him but we haven’t seen enough of him apart from a few episodes to root strongly. At least Rue tries to something different… she is my best worst cook out there lol.”

“Absolutely correct,” yet another agreed. “I remember when Phil cooked with a beef and potato combo a couple of times and Jock ripped into him for it, but Laura cooks pasta every individual cook and gets the red carpet rolled out.”

However, others didn’t necessarily agree, with one user writing, “It is just the nature of a show where elimination is solely based on whoever cooks the worst dish during an elimination episode. Because there isn’t an elimination every episode, people can fail and still get through. Sometimes they are in a team that avoids elimination, so they get through on other people’s efforts.

“How would you change the format? An elimination every night or something?” they added. “I don’t think it is contestants being favoured or given special chances, it is just that they haven’t cooked the worst dish on an elimination night yet. I’ve liked some of the challenges this season, like the fridge leftovers one and the pivot mystery box. I think some of the pressure tests have been a bit meh though.”
