For decades, Montreal Canadiens fans have been longing for a true offensive superstar—a player capable of electrifying the Bell Centre and rewriting the history books.
The shadow of Vincent Damphousse’s legendary 40-goal season in 1993-94 still looms large, with only rare flashes of brilliance since then.
But as a new season approaches, whispers are growing louder that the drought may finally end, and the spotlight is firmly fixed on Cole Caufield.
After a remarkable leap in production last year, Caufield is closer than ever to breaking the elusive 40-goal barrier, and the excitement in Montreal is palpable.
Yet, there’s an intriguing twist that could make this season truly unforgettable. With Lane Hutson poised to take on a pivotal role as the power play quarterback, the dynamic between Hutson and Caufield could be the secret ingredient that transforms the Canadiens’ offense.
Add in the possibility of a new star joining the lineup, and the stakes—and the anticipation—have never been higher. Could this be the year that history is made?
Will Caufield finally reach legendary status, or will another unexpected hero emerge? The answers lie ahead, and fans won’t want to miss what’s coming next.

Let’s be honest, Montreal Canadiens fans haven’t exactly been spoiled with offensive stars in recent years.
The last 40-goal scorer in a season for the Habs was Vincent Damphousse during the 1993-94 campaign.
Since then, only Max Pacioretty came close with 39 goals in 2013-14.
That drought could very well end this season, as Cole Caufield might finally hit that mark.

According to Stu Cowan on a recent episode of The Sick Podcast, it’s definitely within reach.
After finding the back of the net 37 times last season, will Cole Caufield be able to reach the 40 goal mark this season?
“I think so.. 40 isn’t a big stretch for him to hit this season”
– Stu Cowan
A stepping stone toward 50 goals for Cole Caufield?
Caufield’s progression over the past few years has been incredible.
As Cowan reminded, he’s gone from 26 to 37 goals in just three seasons.
And let’s not forget that his 26-goal season came in just 46 games.
“Sometimes size doesn’t matter. He finds a way to get it done.”
– Pat Maroon
With Lane Hutson expected to take over the power play quarterback role from the start of the season, and the possible addition of Ivan Demidov to that unit during the year, Caufield’s chances of producing are very high.
Hutson could truly give him a big gift and help him finally surpass 40 goals!
He’s the key-an element that could change everything with his ability to generate scoring chances.
Of course, much will also depend on Patrik Laine’s usage and effectiveness.
If Laine doesn’t produce, it might well be number 22’s chance to step up.
The potential for growth over the next few years is huge.
Caufield’s goal-scoring prowess and skills have earned him a long-awaited invite to Team USA.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see him flirting with the 50-goal plateau within two to three seasons.
Just imagine this unit in its prime: Caufield, Hutson, Demidov, Suzuki, and Slafkovsky.
We’re already salivating!
