EXCLUSIVE: With more than a few secret weapons up their sleeve, Robby and Mat are in an excellent position to win Backyard and Pool Week on The Block.

House 5 have the second tightest budget of $70,000 but throw in the $50,000 fireplace and $50,000 pickleball court they’ve won, they’re almost in a league of their own!

Robby and Mat have just come off the back of a record-breaking win after they snagged three perfect 10s during Alfresco and Shed Week.

With $100,00 in prizes the other teams didn’t have, had Robby and Mat already won Backyard and Pool Week or did the other teams still have a fighting chance?

Either way Robby and Mat didn’t want to roll the dice and met up with Freedom stylist Serena to give them the best possible chance of back-to-back wins.

She fed them some very useful tips when it came to creating an outdoor sanctuary.

Opt for modular furniture

Modular furniture is made up of separate units or ‘modules’ that can be combined, rearranged, or separated to create various configurations over time.

In Mat’s case, selecting a modular sofa meant that the homeowner could swap between having a lounge, daybed or single seats.

The flexible design allows users to customise layout, adaptability to lifestyle changes, and save money over time.

Orientate your furniture around hero features

If you have a pool, barbecue area or sports court, these are the areas in your backyard people will use the most.

You want to orientate your furniture towards these living zones rather than scatter them around the yard.

For instance, Mat decided on two seats by the pickleball court for spectators to use.

Another one could be for stools by the barbecue for guests to sit on while the host is cooking.

Elevate comfort with finishing touches

It’s all good and well to plonk a couch outside but you’ll need to style it up so that people feel invited to use it.

Serena suggested outdoor cushions and rugs made of special material that will withstand the elements.

Just because you’re outdoor doesn’t mean you have to skimp on the creature comforts!
