The Block’s Andy and Deb Saunders have thrown their support behind the Taree community as record floodwaters continue to rise in the area.
Three years earlier, the couple’s business The Shed Luxe was hit hard by floods so Andy and Deb understand the community’s struggle more than anyone.
Andy and Deb no longer own the Taree shop but took to their Instagram Stories to share a picture of the new shopfront that stands where theirs once was. The impact of rising water levels was clear in the image shared.
“Small business can’t take it anymore! This is where our shop went under just three years ago in what was meant to be a one in 100 year flood! It’s only three years later!” they wrote.

Having been in the same position a short three years ago, Andy and Deb’s hearts broke for the residents and business owners of Taree.
“This was our little shop once, now owned by some truly wonderful people. Sadly, it’s been flooded today. Homes, farms, and businesses right across our area are underwater again. We’re safe, but our hearts are broken for everyone in Taree,” they wrote.
“Never thought we’d see this again, let alone so soon.”
Andy and Deb called on anybody in a position to help to keep an eye out for local fundraisers and noted that “every bit of kindness counts”.

“Just to clarify, we don’t own our shop here anymore, but we still love it deeply, and we’re cheering on all the incredible businesses that remain,” they wrote.
“It’s been floods, fires, droughts, a pandemic and now more floods. Taree has been through so much and it’s heartbreaking.
“As soon as the doors open again, we are ready to shop and support.
“Taree is underwater, people are stuck in their homes awaiting rescue. Businesses, family homes and farms are all affected. Again!”

When Andy and Deb’s store went under water in 2021, they admitted they didn’t expect things to get as bad as they did.
At they time they wrote: “Thank you all for the messages and outpouring of love & support. We are so grateful. sorry we can’t reply to them all but we feel the love,” the caption began.
“When we first posted early on the morning of the flood that we would be closing the store we had no idea that it would end up the way it did! The water took hold and filled the shop. Heavy fridges, lounges everything upturned and floating! Cars floating in our car park. So much mess!
“We are all safe, our store is now free of all water and drying out. We will be back soon.”
