Olga Solovey has decided not to attend the world premiere of Rust, stating that she has not received an apology from Alec Baldwin regarding her daughter’s death.
The world premiere of Rust will be held today, on Wednesday, November 20, at the Camerimage festival in Poland.
The film features Alec Baldwin, who on October 21, 2021, tragically shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza when the revolver discharged.
It is to be noted that a lot of people from the camera department left the set, the day before filming began, citing unsafe working conditions as the reason.
Following the incident, Alec Baldwin faced an involuntary manslaughter case in 2023.
The charges were dismissed, only to be reinstated in 2024, with the judge eventually dismissing the case on July 12, 2024. The film armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was sentenced to 18 months in jail for involuntary manslaughter.
In a recent update, Hutchins’ mother, Olga Solovey, announced that she will not be attending the movie’s world premiere, which was organized to celebrate Halyna’s aspirations, due to what she described as ‘unremorseful behavior from Baldwin’.

Olga, along with her attorney Gloria Allred, released a statement explaining her decision to skip the world premiere of Rust.
She said, “It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen. Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter.
Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death. Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter.”
“That is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the promotion of Rust, especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter,” she added.
Joel Souza, the director who sustained injuries during the incident involving Alec Baldwin, is set to present the film at the Camerimage festival.
“Almost three years after the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins, a Ukrainian cinematographer… Camerimage is set to honor her memory and remind the world of her legacy,” the festival said.
The event’s private ticketing system website quickly experienced a crash, with various festival goers booking their tickets to Rust at the same time, only to receive an error message, “The Camerimage portal is currently undergoing system maintenance.”
