Samantha Armytage has broken her silence over reports that she’s set to replace Sarah Abo on Today in Nine’s bid to score a ratings win.

Samantha Armytage has addressed rampant speculation that she’s set to bag a permanent role on The Today Show.

A bombshell report emerged over the last few days regarding rumoured plans to dump Today co-host Sarah Abo in favour of Armytage.

The Australian’s Media Diary claimed major talks are currently underway among executives at Nine HQ in Sydney, as the network hatches a desperate bid to finally topple number 1 competitor, Seven’s Sunrise, in the breakfast ratings war come 2026.

The outlet also claimed Stefanovic, who has co-hosted for the better part of two decades, recently agreed to extend his $3 million annual contract in the last few days, cementing his spot at the helm for at least one more year.

As rumours continue to swirl, Armytage has played down suggestions that she’s set to replace Abo.

In an interview with Daily Telegraph, she claimed that working on a morning show “affects your life really badly” and that she “doesn’t miss it”.

I’m completely happy to stay in prime time, with the alarms going off at reasonable hours,” said the TV star. “Getting up all those years at 3am was really hard. It affects your social life badly. It’s hard on your body. I don’t necessarily miss that.

“I had this conversation with my sister, who lives in London, the other day. She was talking about [the UK’s Prime Minister] Keir Starmer. And I said, “Georgie, I just can’t.” For the first time in 30 years, I think I’m actively avoiding the news. I find it too much at the moment. It’s just so depressing. I’ve removed myself. I’m choosy about what I watch and listen to; I always have been. It’s nice to step out of it at the moment – I think it always was exhausting but it’s really exhausting right now.

She added that she found the idea of taking on such a job again “exhausting,” saying: “And it’s a different era. Trump as president has sped everything up. It’s a lot of adrenaline for journalists to keep up with. I take my hat off to them, because that’s exhausting. I’m quite happy to lie low and host a massive reality show.”

Armytage’s one-year contract with the broadcaster, inked last October according to reports, is due to lapse this month.

Insiders had claimed that she is eager to re-sign with Nine, which also produces The Golden Bachelor, which she hosts.
