Conservationist Robert Irwin, 21, honored his late father, Steve Irwin‘s memory, while in Hollywood, California.
TV Insider reported that on August 24, Robert took to his Instagram account to show that he visited his father’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He explained he was in Los Angeles because he is a contestant for the upcoming 34th season of the ABC show Dancing With the Stars, which will begin airing on September 16. In the video, Robert crouched down beside the star and said, “How cool is that” while smiling brightly.
“This is so special,” read the caption of the post.
Robert’s older sister, Bindi Irwin, 27, was quick to comment on the post, stating that she believed their father is proud of him. As fans of the Irwin family are aware, Steve died in 2006 when he was 44 after being injured by a short tail stingray.
“I know Dad is SO proud of you,” wrote Bindi.
Quite a few Instagram users also flocked to the post’s comments section to share they appreciated Robert’s video.
“You’re looking down at your dads star but he’s looking down on you :),” wrote a commenter.
“That man loved you SO much. You honor him well,” added another.
“So cool. Your dad brought joy and education to so many. It’s great to see you follow in his footsteps. Go dance your feet off out there!” shared a different person.
“Who else cries every time he shows pride towards his pops?!! Steve and @terriirwincrikey did an amazing job raising two beautiful babes @bindisueirwin & @robertirwinphotography !!” shared a fourth fan.
Robert discussed his father’s legacy during a March 2024 interview with the Big Talk Show. He shared that he is often approached by fans who say they viewed Steve as a father figure when he and his wife, Terri Irwin, were starring in the series, The Crocodile Hunter, which ran for five seasons until 2004.
“People will say, ‘I grew up without a father figure.’ A lot of the time. Whether that’s through death, whatever circumstance it is, people say, ‘I grew up without a father figure. And your dad, Robert, was a father figure to me,’” said Robert during the interview. “What an amazing thing. What an incredible person that he just had a powerful energy. He was like a father figure for an entire generation. That is such a beautiful thing.”
Robert then said he “lucked out” by having Steve as his parent.
“I really lucked out big time,” continued the wildlife photographer.
