Bindi Irwin has shared a candid video update from her hospital bed in New York just an hour after undergoing emergency surgery.

Bindi Irwin has revealed she underwent emergency surgery in New York, during which her appendix and 14 endometriosis lesions were removed.

The 26-year-old wildlife warrior posted a heartfelt video to Instagram on Tuesday from her hospital bed, filmed just an hour after the procedure.

“Hey guys, Bindi here, I just wanted to thank you so much for your incredible well wishes, I just got out of surgery about an hour ago,” she said, as hospital equipment beeped softly in the background.

“I just had my appendix removed. I also had 14 new endometriosis lesions that had to be removed, and they kindly stitched up my hernia as well.”

Bindi thanked her surgeon and medical team for their care, saying: “I am forever grateful to Dr Schkin and the entire team at Lenox Hill Hospital.

“Thank you guys for your kind words, for your support,” she added.

“I’m sorry if I’m a little out of it in this video, but I just wanted you to know that I’m on the road to recovery one step at a time, and I’m so lucky to have so much love in my life from my beautiful family.

“Sending love and light your way, and we will get through this.”

News of Bindi’s medical emergency surfaced after she and her mother Terri, 60, were absent from the annual Steve Irwin Gala in Las Vegas on Saturday evening.

The gala, held to raise funds for global conservation efforts, has been running since 2002 in memory of Steve Irwin, who died at 44 after being fatally injured by a stingray while filming on the Great Barrier Reef.

Her brother, Robert Irwin, 21, explained to People that the family hadn’t anticipated the health scare.

“She’s going to be OK,” he assured fans.

“But surgery, out of all the things we were ready for, was not one of them.

“She came to Las Vegas and was ready to come to the gala, put on a brave face in a lot of discomfort and a lot of pain and said, ‘Nope, I’m just going to tough it out, I’m going to go for it’,” Robert said.

“But the surgeon said, ‘No, your appendix is going. That thing’s gotta come out’. Health has to come first.”

While it was initially believed the surgery took place in Las Vegas, Bindi later clarified she had flown to New York on the day of the event to be treated by her specialist.

“…After consulting with Dr. Seckin, we agreed that if I flew to New York, he could also check for endometriosis again,” she explained.

“Surgery was a success.”

She also praised her younger brother for stepping up to host the Steve Irwin Gala solo.

“…He did such an incredible job raising funds and awareness for Wildlife Warriors,” she said.

“And thanks to my family for always being there for me. I have so much love for dear Chandler and sweet Grace. Thank you to Mum for being there with me every step of the way.”

Bindi promised supporters she’ll be attending the next Steve Irwin Gala in Brisbane this November.

“One day at a time. Time to heal now. Sending my love to you all,” she said.

Her husband, Chandler Powell, the father of their four-year-old daughter Grace Warrior, and Robert both shared their support in response to her video.

“Stay strong Bindi! Love you!” Robert commented, while Chandler added: “Strongest person I know” with a love heart emoji.
