This is the news of the day in Quebec: Ivan Demidov has signed an entry-level contract with Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

Knowing he was signed, at first, the details didn’t matter much to me, but I still went to check out the specifics of the deal, and there’s one element that stands out and is truly incredible.

Ivan Demidov wanted to include a clause in his contract that gives him a bonus if he wins the Conn Smythe Trophy

Excuse me?

You read that right.. What confidence! Wow!

I love this clause for so many reasons.

“Ivan Demidov’s entry-level contract with the Habs includes a $525,000 bonus if he wins the Conn Smythe Trophy this spring.”

This kid is truly special, and we are so lucky.

Ivan Demidov will receive a $525,000 bonus if he wins the Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff MVP) this year.

I love this clause for several reasons.

– Anthony Martineau

Ivan Demidov clearly has a lot of confidence in himself, in his ability to make an immediate impact with the Montreal Canadiens, and also, in this team.

It’s such a great day to be a Montreal Canadiens fan.

Yes, yes, Ivan Demidov really does have a Conn Smythe clause.

Demidov, only 19 years old, recorded 49 points in 65 games with SKA this season, including 19 goals, and finished as his team’s leading scorer.

His now former head coach, Roman Rotenberg, said on BPM Sports earlier today that he expects Demidov to have an Artemi Panarin-like impact as soon as he arrives in the National Hockey League.

That’s saying something.
