Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is having an incredible season, and he has joined some truly elite company with his latest achievement.

Gilgeous-Alexander scored 40 points on Sunday to lead the Thunder to a 127-103 win over the Denver Nuggets. He added eight rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots in 35 minutes of play.

The 40-point performance was Gilgeous-Alexander’s third straight game with 40-plus points.

If you want to know the last time he scored fewer than 20 points in a game, you will have to go all the way back to Oct. 30, when SGA had 18 in a win over the San Antonio Spurs.

Sunday marked the 59th straight contest in which Gilgeous-Alexander has scored 20 or more points.

ABC showed a graphic during the game that revealed that the only two players who have had more consecutive 20-point games since 2000 are Kevin Durant (72) and Kobe Bryant (63).

The graphic did not include Sunday’s game, which was Gilgeous-Alexander’s 59th straight with 20 or more points.

He had already surpassed James Harden and Allen Iverson, who had streaks of 57.

That statistic is just one illustration of what a remarkable year Gilgeous-Alexander is having. The MVP favorite is now averaging 32.8 points, 6.2 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game.

He is well on his way to averaging 30-plus points per game for a third consecutive season. SGA is the NBA’s leading scorer.

The Thunder improved to a Western Conference-best 53-11 with their win over Denver.

They look like a legitimate championship contender, and Gilgeous-Alexander’s play is the biggest reason for that.
