McClung, who starred collegiately at Texas Tech and Georgetown, is a three-time NBA Dunk Contest champion. The 26-year-old guard has played sparingly in the NBA, though he’s taken over the highlight of All-Star Weekend for three years now.

McClung, who went undrafted out of Texas Tech, is currently playing for the Orlando Magic’s G League team, the Osceola Magic.

The 6-foot-2 guard is having a big year. He’s averaging 21.1 points per game and making a case to be brought up to the Orlando Magic’s roster.

Unfortunately, McClung has suffered a tough injury.

McClung has reportedly suffered a fractured thumb injury. He suffered the injury on Sunday evening.

ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania first reported the news on Monday afternoon.

“Update on the three-peat NBA Dunk Contest champion: Mac McClung broke his right thumb in the Orlando Magic’s G League team game against Windy City on Sunday night — but will play through the injury.

McClung is averaging 21.1 points in G League,” Charania said.

McClung plans on playing through the injury, though that could be tough as a right-hander.

McClung, who has bounced around the league since going undrafted in 2021, is most famous for his three-time NBA Dunk Contest champion status.

However, he’s probably not going to try for a fourth Dunk Contest title in 2026.

“This will be the last year for me. I’ve really loved it. You know, you run out of dunks. So this is probably where I’m at after this,” said McClung during NBA All-Star Weekend, via Steph Noh.

Hopefully, McClung will be able to play through his fractured thumb injury and get a call-up to the Orlando Magic down the stretch of the 2024-25 NBA regular season.

McClung has played in five career NBA games. He’s averaged 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, in a little more than 60 minutes of total game action.
