This season of The Block has been a divisive one. If viewers aren’t complaining about the judges, it’s about the manufactured drama, or even the lack of drama.
Now, The Block fans have called out the five houses after being left disappointed by a major part of the design process. One viewer took to Reddit and wrote, “Please. PLEASE can we see more colour this season?!
“There is too much brown, beige, monochrome BLAH this season. I know that colour can be polarising and they want to sell the homes. But these homes are already boring by design because they are all identical in their layout. Somebody, please try to stand out. These rooms are on life support, and somebody has to bring some life to these houses.”

Many others agreed, with one person responding, “Marty [Fox] being a judge has hurt the teams who do step outside the box tbh because he is so damn critical of anything not within his idea of what sells.
“Contestants HAVE to win judging to sell their homes and afford to finish. Which means they have to please three judges, who never get it right, compared to the public’s view or the bidders. It’s created year after year carbon copies.”
Another wrote, “It looks to be as though the producers have deliberately set the contestants a very tight colour palette to choose from. As Cam keeps saying, ‘It’s a real estate show!’, so you think they’re trying to engage no black rooms or designs as they want to maximise financial return.
“This show has moved a long way and not for the better. Originality and quirkiness has been stamped out in favour of financial gain. I fear for the rest of the show.”
Others suggested that it wasn’t that colour is “polarising”, but it’s just hard to do well.
Some teams have used colour sparingly throughout the design process, like Sonny and Alicia in their kids’ bedrooms, but others, like Robby and Matt, and Britt and Taz, have decided to stick to a more neutral colour palette.
“Neutral colours and white walls are not timeless. It’s the fashion of our time, and has been since the turn of the millennium,” said a third. “Colour is making a comeback, and we’ll look back at the white walls of the early 21st century and think how boring we were.”

Others didn’t agree, with one viewer writing, “When you’re building a home to sell, you never put a lot of colour in it. You keep all the tones as neutral as possible and use colour to create accents in your styling. This is so that potential buyers won’t be turned off by too much colour, and if a buyer wants to add more colour after they purchase it, then they can do that themselves. This is standard real estate practice.”
“We’re not looking for primary colours drenching the place, but there’s more options than beige,” another fan hit back.
“If I were on the show, I would make bolder decisions to make my house stand out and look different from the others,” the OP responded. “Could it be a mistake? Sure, but at least it is trying something. If I were a buyer in this market, I would pass over these because they, like many mass-produced, cookie-cutter, suburban neighbourhoods simply look soulless. Give me character over mundane any day.”
