Episode 30 Recap: The Block is reaching boiling point as rivalries intensify, suspicions spread and contestants push themselves to breaking point.

Week eight on The Block has landed with a thud – and the exhaustion is starting to show. With contestants juggling guest suite builds, open inspections, and the return of the Domain Buyers Jury Challenge, tensions are boiling over and friendships are being tested like never before.
The pressure began early in the week as teams were told they had just days to get their homes polished and ready for 100 potential buyers to walk through – plus, listings to prepare at the same time. A prize of $50,000 hangs in the balance, enough to bankroll landscaping for some houses.
For Han and Can, the announcement was too much. The pair broke down in tears, already feeling they had no chance of finishing on time. Emma, meanwhile, faced her own challenges. Fifteen weeks pregnant, she missed her first in-person maternity appointment because of build commitments, instead taking the call from site in tears.
Frosty friendships and timber wars
Old rivalries haven’t thawed either. The fallout from last week’s shopping spat between Britt and Alicia continues, with both sides digging in. Britt has made it clear to Taz that open inspections are now an opportunity to “tell the country why they shouldn’t buy house one, two, four or five.”
Sure enough, the couple took their strategy into kitchens, describing Ben and Emma’s as “underwhelming”, criticising the mix of timber in Sonny and Alicia’s room, and labelling Robby and Mat’s effort “unfinished.”
And then there’s the timber stand-off. Last week, Taz claimed every available log from Scott Cam’s sawmill. This week, Sonny returned serve by spray painting a fresh pile for himself. Alicia wasn’t impressed, calling the move “petty”, while others saw it as fair play in the ongoing resource race.
Winners’ dinner and secrets revealed
The week’s joint winners, Robby and Mat and Britt and Taz, celebrated their kitchen success with an MG getaway. Over dinner with Scott, the host stirred the pot, declaring, “I feel that I’m sitting with the winners of The Block.”
He also dropped a bombshell: teams are allowed to vote for themselves in the Buyers Jury Challenge. Last year’s runner-up lost by just one vote after forgetting to do so. Both winning teams quietly agreed to keep that tidbit from their rivals.
Meanwhile, back at the chumps’ dinner, alliances were forming. Sonny and Alicia cornered Robby and Mat earlier in the week, warning them that suspicions were mounting over their costly wine cellar. What they didn’t admit was that they were the ones stoking the flames.
The wine cellar conspiracy
Sonny estimated the cellar’s price tag at $150,000 and pushed hard to convince others something wasn’t above board.
“Right now, we look like mugs. We’re at the chumps’ dinner being f**ing chumps. That’s why we’re here, we’re chumps,”* he told the group, leaving Ben looking uncomfortable and Han and Can avoiding eye contact.
Alicia then turned on Han, furious at her insistence she was there for the experience rather than money.
“I’d rather just see everyone do well,” Han explained.
“I do not know why you’re here then. I don’t know why you’re here. Stop being so f**ing nice all the time,”* Alicia shot back.
The aggressive push worked. Though hesitant at first, the other contestants agreed a body corporate meeting should be called. Ben ultimately agreed to make the request, noting later that while Sonny and Alicia were the loudest voices, they kept their hands clean when it came to pulling the trigger.
Body corporate showdown
When the meeting arrived, Robby and Mat were ready. The boys revealed their wine cellar would cost $44,000, not the six-figure sum rumoured, thanks to a sponsor providing free wall framing. They admitted they took a gamble early on that they’d win enough money to cover the rest – and it had paid off.
The explanation satisfied the group, closing the issue quickly. But with resentment about timber supplies, secret voting strategies, and the never-ending build schedule, the drama is far from over.
And on top of all the politics, contestants must deliver an entire guest suite this week – a bedroom and ensuite – all while prepping their houses for the looming buyers’ inspection. With $50,000 on the line, it’s clear the gloves are well and truly off.
Fans have their say
Viewers took to social media to unload on the latest episode, with many criticising Sonny and Alicia for pushing the body corporate while avoiding accountability.
One fan said, “S&A threatening to stop the boys… like what power do you seriously think you have to do that. That’s insane.” Another labelled them “snakes in the grass”, while a different viewer wrote bluntly, “Sonny & Alicia are just a pair of miserable cnts lol.”*
Many accused the pair of jealousy, with one comment reading, “Just come out with it Sonny. You’re raging with insecurity over the fact that house 5 came up with an ingenious, original idea and you simply CAN’T STAND IT.”
Others pointed out the double standards. “Funny how Sonny was pissed off that someone borrowed his idea for the heated seat, but has no problem borrowing the boys’ hard work finding out the info for the cellar,” one viewer noted.
Even Han’s reluctance to stir conflict drew attention, with fans supporting her stance. “Not everyone wants to be a c** ass bitch to everyone around them. And she wonders why she has no friends,”* one wrote, while another praised her: “Wow Han being the voice of reason? What is going on.”
But not all viewers were focused on the drama. Some questioned the cellar cost itself, arguing $44,000 was still unrealistically low even with discounts. Others defended Robby and Mat, pointing out that all contestants benefit from sponsorship deals and discounted trades.
Still, the loudest feedback was reserved for the antics of House 4. “Sonny and Alicia are exhausting. Massive ‘go away’ energy,” one fan wrote. Another summed up the mood more colourfully: “Sonny & Alicia are seriously a fart in a bottle.”
