Big Brother 2012 winner Benjamin Norris has defended The Block‘s Alicia after she copped major backlash from viewers following last week’s heated confrontation with Britt and Taz.

This article contains The Block spoilers. Proceed with caution.
It’s no secret that some fans have a bone to pick with Sonny and Alicia following last week’s run of The Block. To give you a quick recap, shit hit the fan when the group grew bitter towards West Australian couple Britt and Taz after they completed their subframe ahead of Alfresco and Shed Week.
While Britt and Taz were forbidden from working on the deck as a form of punishment, Stratco’s work on site prevented the other teams from working on their decks as well, which still left Britt and Taz with an advantage. So, to help “even the playing field”, the group decided to hold a body corporate, asking the WA duo to halt any work on their decks until they catch up.
During the bodycorp, Sonny and Alicia took the reins on delivering the harsh news to Britt and Taz. While Alicia claimed the punishment “wasn’t personal”, Britt believed it was due to Alicia’s past “snide comments”.

Taz eventually agreed to the punishment, but before they could return to their work sites, Alicia pulled Britt and Taz into a separate conversation, calling them out for claiming she made “snide comments”.
“Don’t you dare, and I will not allow you to throw me under the bus, that I’ve been a nasty bitch because I’ve done nothing but take care of you,” Alicia said.
While the two teams hugged it out in the end, Britt admitted that their friendship — which was strong at the start of the season — had been damaged.
“Today really made us realise, ‘Are we going to be friends with these people when we leave?’ Our friends wouldn’t do this to us,” Britt shared in a confessional.

With such a heated moment, it appears that some Block viewers felt some type of way against Alicia and took to social media to call her out for her on-screen behaviour.
Reality TV stars band together to defend The Block‘s Alicia
Big Brother 2012 housemate and winner Benjamin Norris admitted that he’s met Alicia in real life and claimed she’s a “wonderful person” despite what people say online.
“I’ve actually met and now know Alicia. She is a wonderful person. I get that people react to what they [see] on TV, but believe me when I say Alicia is kind, funny, thoughtful, generous and [a] great person to know,” Benjamin shared in a “popular” Facebook group, Chattr reports.
“I say this with love guys, you are watching a constructed reality show. You don’t know these people. They are reduced to moments that are designed to polarise you. I guarantee you all, Alicia is someone you would like. They edit out some people’s poor behaviour and make the others look like meanies. It’s just how these shows are made.”
Benjamin went on to remind fans that The Block is a “competition-based reality show” and that many contestants “don’t remember everything [they] say” at the time.
Britt and Taz have also come forward to defend Alicia and Sonny, as well as Han and Can, from online trolls despite their on-screen tussles.
“We absolutely do not condone any comments from trolls and stuff like that,” Taz told Yahoo! Lifestyle.
“We deal with mental health on a daily basis with our work, and cyberbullying and trolling is one of the very, very big excesses on mental health.
“It just absolutely takes a toll and deteriorates people, so we do not condone any of that. So we do feel for Han and Can, and we do feel for Sonny and Alicia, who are copping the brunt of it.”

About a week ago, Alicia admitted to Yahoo! Lifestyle that it’s been “tough” dealing with some of the messages she’s received since appearing on The Block.
“I think because I’m a stronger personality who’s not afraid to voice how I feel, rather than shutting it down and just pretending and talking about things behind people’s backs or just not saying it at all, I feel like the trolls feel like that that’s okay, that they can just come and say whatever they want to me and think that I’m this nasty person when I’m not. I’m not a nasty person,” Alicia shared.
While I understand feeling extremely passionate about shows — peep the Married At First Sight coverage — the hate is NOT needed.
No matter what kind of show it is, it’s not on.
