There have been Block wins from every possible position – but that doesn’t mean the auction order is not a very important factor.
It was no surprise that as the 2025 teams negotiated their Auction Day schedule, emotions were high.
The five teams sat down with Scott Cam, Shelley Craft and Domain’s Alice Stolz to make the crucial call and for the dreaded reveal of their reserve price.

First, Alice shared the level of interest in the five Daylesford homes and for some, this was a sobering moment.

Houses 3 and 5 had the most registered buyers at five each, but House 5’s buyers are all interested in House 3 too. House 1 had three, House 4 had two, and unfortunately House 2 had none yet.
As the teams started to nut out the order, it was almost unanimously agreed that Han and Can should go last – and clearly, as negotiations happened around her, it all got too much for Can.
She became clearly emotional.

“Sorry,” she said, trying to pull herself together.
“Don’t say sorry, this is toughest day you’ll ever have on The Block I think,” Shelley consoled her.
Han explained: “She’s just worried if we go last that we won’t sell.”
However, Alice, Shelley and the other teams were all of the belief that going last would actually put them in the best possible position.

They believed buyers who missed out on the previous properties would then have an interest in House 2.
“I truly believe that when momentum starts, it builds, it keeps going and all of a sudden, that last chance fear kicks in for people, FOMO kicks in,” Alice said.
Han appreciated the advice and was willing to take it.
From there, negotiations hinged on Britt and Taz agreeing to go first.
The rest of the group believed House 3 had the most emotional buyers and would get the best result upfront, which would hopefully then set a strong precedent for the rest of the day.
Choosing the auction order can very easily turn sour but thankfully, there was no need to go to a hat this year.
The official auction order of The Block 2025 was confirmed.
First – Britt and Taz
Second – Robby and Mat
Third – Emma and Ben
Fourth – Sonny and Alicia
Last – Han and Can
Things are…tense. (Nine)
While that was fairly painless, there was still the reserve prices to come – and that’s when the fear really set in.
“That is rough,” Han immediately reacted to the number, revealed on a wine bottle.
That was the sentiment all around as four teams read the figure.
Sonny and Alicia won the front yard Room Reveal, which meant they’d had $50,000 slashed off, a crucial advantage if the reaction to these reserves are anything to go by:
Emma and Ben House 1: $2,990,000
Han and Can House 2: $$2,990,000
Britt and Taz House 3: $$2,990,000
Sonny and Alicia House 4: $2,940,000 (after $50,000 was slashed off due to winning final Room Reveal)
Robby and Mat House 5: $$2,990,000
This left the teams feeling even more apprehensive than they already were.
That’s a BIG number. (Nine)
“It feels rough to me too,” Scotty agreed with the group.
“I didn’t even consider this,” a shocked Alicia said.
Taz said that after speaking to their agent and considering the market, they’d hoped the reserve to be much lower at $2.4 to $2.6m.
Robby and Mat felt similarly, saying their agent had hoped for $2.5m in order for them to make good money.
However, the price guides were $3m to $3.3m, as Scotty pointed out.
“I think that’s probably why we’ve got two registered bidders and maybe some have got more, because our agent has been quoting $3m to $3.3m – but I think everyone was ever hopeful that it might come in underneath that and it hasn’t,” Sonny reacted.
His assessment now? “I guess we hold on for dear life on Saturday,” he said.
