Robert Irwin has shown the world in recent weeks that he’s just as at home with the crocodiles as he is on the dance floor. And while the last few dances he’s performed on the American version of Dancing With The Stars have been light and fun, this week is ‘Dedication Week’ and it holds a little more weight.

The 21-year-old has decided to dedicate his dance to his mother, Terri Irwin, and will do a contemporary routine with dance partner Witney Carson to the Phil Collins song ‘You’ll Be In My Heart’. The Wildlife Warrior has admitted that the week has been an “emotional” one, sharing a vulnerable photo of himself on the ground as Witney cradles him.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about my mum and her strength, I’ve been reminiscing on the times we’ve spent as a family and how she has kept my dad part of my life,” Robert wrote on Instagram.

Robert said that his dance is for his mum and “for anyone who’s lost someone”.

He added that it’s also particularly for “all the strong mothers of the world who deserve our recognition and appreciation”.

Terri, a very proud mum, commented, “I love you forever and always. Together we are strong.”

Witney also shared how proud of Robert she is, while their Dancing With The Stars co-star Danielle Fishel added, “I’m in tears – your mom deserves this praise and I know you and @witneycarson are going to crush this contemporary.”

“Grab your Kleenex everyone, I cannot wait to see you honour your mum,” one fan wrote.

“You are truly the most incredible son.”

“OK, well now I’m crying, Robert and I haven’t even seen the damn dance yet,” another said.

“You’re such a good son, your Pops would be very proud of you.”

“Your mom kept his memory alive, but you’ve kept his heart alive,” a third added.

“He’d be so proud.”

It comes as Terri praised her son for “embracing dance” — something she says she doesn’t see a lot of Australian men do.

“Where did the dancing genes come from?” Robert questioned his mum during an Entertainment Tonight interview.

“Maybe, right there?” he pointed to his mum.

“Well, you know, it was me, or Steve,” Terri said, with Robert joking that it definitely wasn’t his dad.

“Or the milkman, I don’t know,” she joked.

Robert was shocked by the joke and responded, “Oh my God, you’re so out of pocket.”

The interview then became more sincere, as Terri said, “I think watching him as a man wanting to demonstrate that this beautiful art is something for everyone.

“It’s so inspiring — I don’t see as many Australian men embracing dance.”

“That’s such an interesting thing and something that you’ve been really amazing with is like, as you grow up and embracing what is good, positive masculinity,” Robert said.

“Being comfortable enough with yourself to be like, ‘I’ll catch a crocodile in the mud, and I’ll rock the rhinestones, no worries at all,’.”

Witney agreed, saying she loves that confidence, with Robert explaining that he thought it all came from his mum.

“The person I am, really did come from mum,” he said, with Witney telling Terri that she was “taking notes” on how to raise her sons.

Fans loved the moment, with one person commenting on Instagram, “Every single time they talk, I love them more and more.”

“The milkman is such an Aussie thing to say,” another said. “Terri has definitely acclimated.”

Others said they loved how much love and respect the family has for each other.
