Episode 33 Recap: Guest suite week on The Block delivered high drama, unfinished rooms and a record-breaking prize haul.

It was billed as one of the most important weeks of the season – the guest suite reveal – and it delivered every bit of drama you’d expect from The Block. With each team asked to create a two-room wing – a bedroom and a bathroom – the challenge promised to add serious value to their luxury homes. But it also brought exhaustion, unfinished rooms, and even a few reconciliations.
For some, the week was a chance to shine. For others, the wheels came off in spectacular fashion. And by Sunday night, when Scotty Cam called tools down, only two houses were complete.
A Tough Week on Site
The pressure to finish was immense. Sonny and Alicia surged ahead early, pulling clear of the competition. But for others, setbacks stacked up quickly.
Britt and Taz endured a nightmare run, scrambling with waterproofing on Saturday before eventually conceding defeat. Their bathroom was left incomplete – a devastating blow.
In House No.5, Robby and Matt also failed to get across the line, despite a stylish effort in their bedroom. And in House No.2, Han and Can faced the same fate, leaving parts of their ensuite unfinished.
Adding insult to injury, it was Can’s birthday, but instead of celebrating, she was left flat and frustrated.
There was at least a moment of peace when Sonny and Alicia made amends with Britt and Taz. Once close friends, tensions had simmered for weeks, but the couples hugged it out in House No.4 and agreed to move forward.
Emma and Ben Take Control
With three houses unfinished, the focus quickly turned to the two couples who did manage to deliver a completed guest suite – Emma and Ben in House No.1 and Sonny and Alicia in House No.4.
Emma and Ben presented a suite packed with features – a Freedom kitchenette in the hallway, a walk-in wardrobe, ensuite, and lockable access to the main home.
Darren Palmer praised the planning:
“You don’t want two couples staying in the house and feeling like somebody got the short straw.
And this delivers.”
Shaynna Blaze admired the styling, with green paint, timber accents, sconce lighting and Bronwyn Barton artworks tying the look together.
Marty Fox was equally impressed:
“A great room in a bloody good house!”
Emma and Ben also nailed the bathroom, complete with an al.ive Wash & Lotion Duo in Green Pepper & Lotus. Darren was so impressed he awarded them a perfect 10. Shaynna followed suit with another 10, while Marty handed over 9.5.
That gave the couple a total of 29.5 points, two tens, and the week’s win. On top of the $30,000 prize money, their Domain Challenge victory earlier in the week pushed their weekly earnings to a staggering $80,000.

Sonny and Alicia Nearly Snatch It
Hot on their heels were Sonny and Alicia, who leaned into colour drenching and bold styling choices. Their Aubergine paint, wallpaper, and artworks by Miimi & Jinda and B. Twomey turned heads.
Shaynna was so taken with the wallpaper she wished it had flowed into the ensuite. Darren highlighted the practical touches, such as the Cooper & Co Norquay console table, sconces and black light trims, while Marty applauded the bathroom:
“Low budget but high impact.”
Marty also called the bathroom’s look “peachy”, saying it would attract buyers. Darren marked them 9.5, Shaynna gave 9.5, and Marty added 9, giving them 28.5 points and second place.

Han and Can Show Sass, But Can’t Finish
In House No.2, Han and Can produced a large-scale bedroom that impressed with its size and tech features, including Google-linked blinds and closable skylights. Shaynna thought it had “sass”, thanks to pieces like the Flamingo Springs artwork and Oatmeal Sumi Armchair.
Marty, however, questioned the study nook, suggesting:
“Replace it with a bar fridge and coffee station, and you’ve got a true weekender.”
Darren liked the “stunning stone and resin bowl” in the bathroom, but with work unfinished, the suite couldn’t compete. They ended the week with 24 points.
Han and Can’s tech-savvy bedroom and striking ensuite showed promise, but unfinished work held them back in The Block’s toughest week. (These images were originally published on nine.com.au/TheBlock.)
Robby and Mat Deliver a Stylish Bedroom
Repeating their grass cloth wallpaper alongside a hand-painted wall by Melissa, Robby and Mat combined bold with calm. Marty was especially impressed:
“This is the best bedroom of the week.”
Darren agreed:
“This is a big bang for buck room that buyers will love, and really fits with the rest of your house.”
Shaynna highlighted the bed and matching chairs, but the judges weren’t sold on the missing kitchenette. Their bathroom also wasn’t finished, leaving them with 20.5 points.
Robby and Mat delivered a stylish, judge-approved bedroom, but their missing kitchenette and incomplete bathroom sank their Block scores. (These images were originally published on nine.com.au/TheBlock.)
Britt and Taz Struggle to the Finish Line
The judges were sympathetic toward Britt and Taz, who produced a beautifully styled bedroom complete with maroon B2C Furniture Lunar Swivel Boucle Occasional Chair and panelled walls. Darren admired the layout, but their unfinished bathroom proved costly.
Marty Fox summed it up:
“Under construction.”
Darren Palmer added:
“The layout is spot on, it’s just a matter of finishing everything.”
With incomplete tiling, unresolved paintwork and vanity problems, they slumped to 19 points and last place.
Britt and Taz’s beautifully styled bedroom couldn’t save them after their unfinished bathroom left them stranded at the bottom of The Block leaderboard. (These images were originally published on nine.com.au/TheBlock.)
The Scores in Full
Emma & Ben – 29.5
Sonny & Alicia – 28.5
Han & Can – 24
Robby & Mat – 20.5
Britt & Taz – 19
A Week to Remember
It was a brutal week on The Block, with only two couples managing to hand over a finished space. But Emma and Ben’s carefully planned, fully executed guest suite proved unbeatable, securing them another huge payday and cementing their place as frontrunners in the competition.
