The rift between contestants on this year’s season of The Block intensified in Wednesday night’s episode when one team made the surprising decision to skip a cast event. Host Scott Cam announced that he would be shouting dinner and drinks to celebrate Britt, Em, and Alicia’s birthdays; however, Britt and her husband, Taz, never showed up.

Instead, the West Australian couple went to dinner by themselves to mark Britt’s 30th, with their co-stars seemingly annoyed that they were “stood up”. While some viewers criticised the pair for the “brutal snub”, Britt told Yahoo Lifestyle it was important for her to put herself first.

“I’m a massive introvert, so in the middle of week 11, I was pretty much a dead human. My social battery was just gone,” she said.

“What you don’t see on The Block is it’s 24/7 cameras on you, you’re answering questions all the time, you’re constantly around people, and there’s no time to recharge.”

Britt’s sudden change of plans

Britt reveals that Taz had initially organised a horse and carriage to take them around Daylesford on her birthday, but it was cancelled last minute because “it was too cold for the horse”.

She was then asked by producers what she would like to do, and made it clear that she only wanted to have dinner with Taz.

“For most people, on their birthday, you spend it with your loved ones,” she said.

“More than anything, I was supposed to be spending it with our kids, and we were supposed to be in Broome for Taz’s brother’s wedding.

“So thinking about that, it really hit home, and all I wanted to do was just be with Taz.”

‘It was so late’

The mum-of-two added that she and Taz had initially planned to see their co-stars after dinner to continue the birthday celebrations, but the night got away from them.

“By the time [the producers] finished filming us eating all the food and everything, it was so late, and where the others were was like, a 15-minute drive,” she said.

“And then we were staying the night at the hotel where we already were, so we were like, we’re not going to go all the way there for one drink and then come back.

“So yeah, we just ended up not going.”

This year’s season of The Block is quickly coming to an end, with only the backyard and front yard left to be revealed.

The auction will take place on Saturday, October 25, and air the following night on Channel 9, with the winning team taking home $100,000 on top of their profit from their sale.
