The wild scene has sparked a fierce debate on social media.

My Kitchen Rules judge Manu Feildel has shocked viewers with his surprisingly brutal act in his new travel show with Colin Fassnidge titled Off The Grid. The Channel 7 series, which Manu recently told Yahoo Lifestyle is one of the most enjoyable projects he’s ever worked on, follows the duo as they travel around New Zealand in a caravan for a month.

Wednesday night’s episode saw the pair head to Poronui Lodge on the North Island, where they hunted for deer with their hunting guide Vincent Elliott. Manu went first, crouching down on a hill with his gun, and successfully shot the animal.

“Holy s**t,” Colin exclaimed.

“Yes — I got it,” Manu said.

The trio then high-fived and hugged each other before Manu and Vincent walked down to the animal, gutted it out, and carried it back to the vehicle.

“Killing it was the easy thing,” Manu remarked.

“I feel like a butcher”.

Viewers call out ‘hard to watch’ moment

While Manu and Colin were thrilled in the episode, many viewers were divided on social media and described the moment as “sad” and “hard to watch”.

“I can’t believe Manu just shot a deer on Off The Grid and they put it on TV,” one person wrote.

“I knew that was coming and left the room,” another added.

“I couldn’t watch, so I went outside for ten minutes,” a third said.

Other viewers remarked that they “did not like watching that part” or that they simply “turned it off”.

However, some viewers defended the move, noting contestants on cooking shows like MKR use meat all the time.

“Not sure what the problem is. Where do you think all our meat products come from?” one viewer remarked.

“What’s wrong with that? If you eat meat, you do realise animals die,” said another.

“Maybe cooking shows aren’t for you if you don’t like seeing reality of where our food comes from,” someone else shared.

A viewer pointed out that the footage could have been shown to “demonstrate the correct way to hunt deer with a quick, clean kill”.

‘The life of two best mates travelling’

Manu recently told Yahoo Lifestyle that one of the main reasons he enjoyed filming Off The Grid so much was that it allowed him and Colin to fully be themselves.

“I think MKR is a different side of us. The real side of us is what you’re going to see on Off The Grid,” he said.

“On MKR, especially nowadays, they let us be a little bit more us. But for a long time, we were the suited, respected judges and professional chefs.

“But this is more light-hearted, which is basically us in a caravan, wearing underpants — or not — and just cooking roughly, hunting, gathering, fishing, having banter, loving each other, and then having an argument about something stupid, and driving along. It’s just the life of two best mates travelling.”
