Good Morning Britain producers were forced to take desperate measures after a guest’s nightmare wardrobe blunder just minutes before their live interview on Wednesday. 

Hosts Susanna Reid, 54, and Richard Madeley, 69, were joined by technology secretary Liz Kendall, 54, to talk about UK’s new tech deal with the US.

But before they got into the interview, Susanna wanted to point out how they weren’t using their usual background drop for the chat.

Susanna said: ‘Before we speak to you Liz Kendall, I need to make an apology to the viewers because we’ve had to go low tech for our interview with you…’

Liz burst into laughter as she continued: ‘Normally you would appear in front of a digital green screen on which is projected an image of the Houses of Parliament.

‘But because you are wearing a green shirt, that image would have been projected onto you.

‘So we’ve had to replace the digital screen with a piece of material on which someone has printed a photograph of the Houses of Parliament.’

She continued: ‘May I just say, the slightly embarrassing moment  for our first interview as technology secretary…

‘Did no one tell you about the perils of green screens?!’

Liz, who could be seen rocking a navy blazer and green blouse, replied: ‘He also said to me, sometimes you have green, sometimes you have blue.

‘Sometimes you have green screens, sometimes you have blue screens.

‘I have done both, but I will never do it again.

‘I have got green shoes on, nut luckily you can’t see then.’

Susanna said: ‘As I say there are a few wrinkles in the fabric behind that people may notice…’

Susanna said: ‘May I just say, the slightly embarrassing moment for our first interview as technology secretary… Did no one tell you about the perils of green screens?!’

During Tuesday’s episode of the show Richard was forced to take a brief break to compose himself on Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain after an emotional interview with relatives who lost loved ones in the Hillsborough disaster.

The presenter was joined by co-host Susanna as the programme marked a historic day for the bereaved families, who have campaigned for decades to secure justice for the 97 Liverpool fans killed in the 1989 tragedy.

The Hillsborough Law – designed to compel public officials to tell the truth during investigations into major disasters – was set to be introduced to Parliament on Tuesday, in what campaigners hailed as a landmark moment.

The law comes after years of anguish for those left behind following the fatal crush at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Sheffield Wednesday’s stadium.

Families spent decades battling to clear the names of the supporters, after police falsely blamed fans for the disaster and covered up the failings of senior officers.

Appearing live from outside Downing Street, fresh from a meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, two campaigners shared their stories.

Margret Aspinall, who lost her 18-year-old son James, and Charlotte Hennessey, who was just six when her father Jimmy died, spoke movingly to Richard and Susanna about the significance of the day.

‘I can barely imagine what you must be feeling,’ Richard said. ‘This has been coming for such a long time, but finally the day is here. You’ve done it! How do you feel?’

Margret responded: ‘We’ve had to campaign for so many years. Raising funds for our loved ones to go through all the courts.

‘No family should have to do that. We should never have had to fight. Today is a day of celebration, because we have done things that are monumental. It’s history.’
