we will be looking at another interview — but this time, it’s the grandmother of Jack and Lily who has spoken out. And this grandmother is from the biological dad’s side of the family. What she has to say is very worrying.
Grandmother (from the biological father’s side):
“My son is Cody Sullivan. He’s not in jail. He’s never been out west. He does not have a criminal record, and right now he’s living with me. He has been for nine months.”
Q: How did you find out that Lily and Jack were missing?
“The mom of my grandson called me. We were in town. She asked if I’d heard the news. She sent me the article that was on Facebook showing the kids were missing.
I couldn’t call Maleia yet, so I waited till we got home, and I texted her. She told me yes, the kids were missing — that they had been missing since that morning.
I was in a state of panic and shock, but in the back of my mind, I kept saying, ‘Well, they’ll find them.’ I was assuming they’d be found.
So I told her, ‘We’ll head out first thing in the morning and help with the search.’”
“It was around 3:00 to 3:30 in the morning when a couple of cop cars pulled into the driveway. The lights woke me up — I’m a fairly light sleeper — so I saw them pull in and I knew what it was.
They came inside but only stood in the kitchen. They wanted me to wake Cody up. They wanted to know when was the last time he had seen the kids and were just making sure the kids weren’t there. Then they left.”
“So, we showed up Saturday morning — me and my sister — and we met up with my daughter. I asked Maleia, ‘You know your kids. Nobody knows them like their mom. Where do your kids normally go to play in the yard? What direction do they usually like to explore?’
And she said, ‘Well, they always play up in the little woods right on the side.’
I said, ‘Okay, we’ll start from that point and work our way out.’
We had spoken to search and rescue and weren’t allowed on the other side because that’s where they were searching. So we started combing through the woods.
We were gone for a couple of hours. I was yelling for Lily and Jack — we always call Jack ‘Jackie Boy.’
That went on for a few hours, but the woods… I started to feel like — I can’t see them being in the woods.
There are trees everywhere. You literally have to climb over trees, crawl under bushes. It’s really, really thick.”
“We came back out and I went in to see Maleia again. I assumed she was in shock. She was very non-emotional, very flat and monotone.
But Maleia is very soft-spoken anyway. She’s not usually excitable. I used to think that’s what made her a great mom.
She never raised her voice at the kids. It was always, ‘Now Lily, what did Mommy say?’
I used to think, if anybody was meant to be a mom, it was her.
A part of me still feels that.”
Q: Why only a part of you still feels that? What do you mean?
“After seeing the place… seeing the condition of the home… it was the total opposite of what I knew of Maleia.
She was always clean — about herself, the kids, the home.
This home looked more like a camp.
Now, I don’t know if it’s from all the people that were there — because I didn’t show up till the day after — but it was very unkempt. I was pretty surprised.”
“My lovely Lily… she was my little dream girl. She was the first granddaughter. I loved that she had brown hair and a space between her teeth — just like I did when I was a kid. She was our little princess.
Jack was such a sober, serious little baby. He didn’t like to smile. You could tickle him and he’d just look at you, ever so serious, like he was really studying you.”
Q: So how long were your son and Maleia together?
“Three and a half years, I think.
I thought they were the picture-perfect family.
Then Maleia started to tell me they were having problems and she wasn’t happy.
She said she was going to leave.
I told her we supported whatever she decided — that one good parent is better than two broken ones.”
Q: And how did that change your relationship with Lily and Jack?
“I thought it would change, but it didn’t. Maleia would still bring them by all the time. It was really good.”
Q: When was the last time you saw the children?
“A year and a half… almost. Maybe a year and nine months.”
Q: How did you deal with that?
“Really? Maybe I didn’t deal well enough.
I looked at it this way: when she and my son separated, he walked away.
She petitioned for sole custody, and when she did that, he said he was done.”
Q: Were you ever formally questioned?
“Yes. About three weeks after Lily and Jack went missing.
They questioned Cody for an hour and a half in the vehicle, then questioned me for two hours.
I didn’t mind. I’m the grandmother — I expected it.
I wish they’d done it sooner. The sooner they clear things, the sooner they can move forward.
My son was upset, though. He said they made him feel like he’d done something wrong. He hadn’t seen the kids in three years.
They asked him questions like, ‘What’s her favorite color?’ and he said, ‘They were babies when I last saw them. I don’t know. She was still learning to eat.’
Yeah, he was pretty upset.”
Q: Have they talked to him again since then?
“A couple of days ago. They told him they weren’t looking his way anymore, that everything was fine.”
Q: Have they ever given you any information?
“No. It’s always the same thing:
‘We’ve got everybody on it. We’re looking at all avenues. We can’t divulge any information that could compromise the investigation.’
Same words, every time.”
Q: Why are you so sure they’re not in the woods?
“I have children. I have grandchildren. I know how kids are in the woods.
There’s no reason for any child to wander deep into the woods. There’s just not.
I think somebody hurt these kids.
I think somebody hurt them.”
Q: You don’t sound very hopeful.
“No.
Our last day searching — on Monday — and seeing the woods, and the searchers, and everybody everywhere…
There’s no way those kids are in the woods.
There is nothing more pure and innocent than a six- and four-year-old.”
Narration (YouTuber):
So, after listening to this interview, you can see that the grandmother thinks something happened to Jack and Lily — and that they didn’t just go missing.
Something very strange has happened, because this lady once described Maleia as being the best mom. But now, she’s not so sure anymore — and that’s very worrying.
I do believe we’ll find out more very soon. Daniel has said that there is an investigation ongoing and that he knows the truth. So I’m guessing he has more of an idea about what really happened to Jack and Lily.
The fact that he went searching for them tells me either:
he was tricked by someone in the family and was clueless about what really happened,
or
he knew they weren’t in the woods, and still went searching — which doesn’t make much sense.
Let me know what you guys think about this case down in the comments.
We’ve had some crucial information come out lately, and Daniel has said Jack and Lily didn’t go missing in the woods.
