Jay Slater’s poor mother, Debbie Duncan, broke down in tears at his inquest because his so-called friends couldn’t be bothered to show their faces. What a disgrace.
Where is Lucy? Where is Bradley? And where is Brandon? And more interestingly, where are Aub and Rocky — the two dodgy guys he went to the Airbnb with? None of them showed up, even though many of them were sent a letter from the police informing them of the date of Jay’s inquest.
Disturbingly, his so-called friend Lucy even flew off to Tenerife, of all places — even though she’d received a letter from the police. So, she obviously thought that by getting out of the country, she could avoid going to Jay’s inquest.
If I were a member of Jay’s family, I’d be absolutely fuming. And to be honest, even though I’m not, I am fuming. This has really pissed me off. Poor Jay’s family — it’s outrageous.
Debbie said, “How can we ever get any understanding? There are things we want to question. We want these people to be sat in front of us, because our son went on holiday and didn’t come back. So there’s questions we need to ask.”
The coroner, Dr. James Adeley, agreed to adjourn the hearing at the request of Mr. Slater’s tearful mother, who begged for the witnesses to be brought to court to give evidence before the inquest concludes.
And now, we’re waiting for a new date for Jay’s inquest.
I have to say, I just can’t believe his so-called friends didn’t show their faces. Lucy — making out that she was his best bud. I honestly think they’ve got something to hide. Why not show up and answer questions? Give Debbie a bit of peace. And his father, Warren, and his brother too.
Some of them are actually on holiday. What a joke.
Jay Slater can’t go on any more holidays. But sure — it’s all right for you to jet off, especially to Tenerife, Lucy. I just can’t believe it. It’s disgusting.
I really hope that Jay is resting in peace. And if there really was foul play involved in his death, I hope the poor lad gets justice.
The tragic case of Jay Slater has taken another deeply disturbing turn. The latest development from his inquest is not just heartbreaking—it’s infuriating. Jay’s grieving mother, Debbie Duncan, was left in tears at what should have been a step toward closure. But instead, the courtroom was met with the shocking absence of those who mattered most to this investigation—Jay’s so-called friends. The people who were with him in his final hours. The people who might hold the key to understanding what really happened.
Where were they? Where were Lucy, Bradley, and Brandon? Most pressing of all—where were Aub and Rocky, the two questionable men Jay was last seen with at the Airbnb? None of them turned up to face the family or to give evidence. And make no mistake—many of them received letters from the police, officially requesting their presence at the inquest. These weren’t vague invitations. These were formal notifications. And yet, they stayed away.
In a particularly outrageous twist, Lucy, who has long claimed to have been one of Jay’s closest friends, was spotted flying off to Tenerife. Yes—Tenerife. The very place where Jay lost his life. She went there even after receiving an official letter about the inquest. What message does that send? To Debbie, to Jay’s father Warren, to his brother, and to anyone with a heart watching this tragedy unfold?
If I were part of Jay’s family, I would be beyond furious. And truthfully, even as someone on the outside looking in, I am absolutely fuming. It’s insulting. It’s disgraceful. And above all, it’s heartbreaking. Jay’s family is desperate for answers. They’re not asking for miracles—they’re asking for basic human decency. Show up. Speak. Explain what happened in those final hours. Instead, they’re met with silence, absence, and an appalling lack of respect.
Debbie Duncan’s words cut through the courtroom: “How can we ever get any understanding? There are things we want to question. We want these people to be sat in front of us, because our son went on holiday and didn’t come back. So there’s questions we need to ask.” Her words are raw, real, and painful. She speaks for every mother who has lost a child in the most unimaginable circumstances—left with a thousand questions and no one willing to provide answers.
Thankfully, the coroner, Dr. James Adeley, heard her. He agreed to adjourn the hearing, giving the family hope that they will eventually get the chance to confront these missing witnesses. Debbie begged the court to bring these people forward, to force them to give evidence. And she’s right to do so. It’s not just a legal necessity—it’s a moral one. Jay deserves nothing less.
The fact that a new date for the inquest is now being arranged is a small step forward. But the real progress won’t come until every person connected to Jay’s final hours is held accountable—at the very least, to tell the truth. To explain what happened. To give clarity, however painful that clarity might be. Their silence only deepens the suspicion and amplifies the grief.
Jay was a 19-year-old lad with his whole life ahead of him. He went on a holiday and never returned. That alone is tragic. But the circumstances surrounding his death are so murky, so riddled with oddities, that it’s impossible not to wonder if something more sinister happened. The drugs found in his system. The messages about being in danger. The claims he was carrying knives for protection. And now, the people who were closest to him during that trip are nowhere to be seen when it matters most.
Some of them are reportedly on holiday. Let that sink in. While Debbie is sobbing in a courtroom, fighting for the right to ask questions about her son’s death, others are lounging on beaches, jetting off to foreign countries—Lucy among them, returning to Tenerife of all places. What kind of person does that? What kind of friend?
Jay will never get another holiday. He will never laugh with his mates again, never hug his family, never get another chance to live his life. And yet, those who were there during his final moments are avoiding the one place they should be: the inquest. It’s a sickening contrast.
If these individuals truly have nothing to hide, they should be the first ones in court. They should be doing everything they can to help this family understand what happened. Instead, their actions—or lack thereof—only deepen the suspicion that something isn’t right. It’s not just about legality at this point—it’s about humanity. Where is the empathy? Where is the decency?
We must keep asking the hard questions. Why did Jay go off with Aub and Rocky? What happened at that Airbnb? Why was he wandering alone and terrified? What made him think he needed to carry knives? What did he mean in those messages he sent about a stolen watch? Every piece of information matters. And those who were with him need to be forced to speak, if they won’t do it willingly.
It’s now more urgent than ever that this inquest resumes with every witness present. The court must use every power it has to compel these people to attend. Enough is enough. The silence, the evasiveness, the cowardice—it all has to end. Jay’s family has waited long enough. They deserve to sit across from those who were with their son and hear the truth from their own mouths.
There’s no comfort in any of this. Only sorrow, anger, and a deep longing for justice. But even amid the darkness, there’s a flicker of hope. The adjournment means that the search for truth isn’t over. Debbie, Warren, and Jay’s brother still have a chance to confront the people who might finally fill in the blanks.
Jay Slater’s life was cut short under suspicious and tragic circumstances. What happened to him should not be buried under silence, denial, or the selfishness of those who claim to have cared for him. It’s time to speak. It’s time for truth. And above all, it’s time for justice.
Rest in peace, Jay. You deserved better in life—and you certainly deserve better in death.
