Police are on the hunt for a man who went missing in the same location of Jay Slater. The man, named Jesús, disappeared on the island of Tenerife. Search efforts are currently ongoing.

A major search operation is currently underway on the Spanish island in the Masca area. Authorities are on the search the 68-year-old who was last seen on Monday 21st of April. Jesús was last spotted in La Matanza de Acentejo, but the search has since shifted to Masca in Buenavista del Norte after his vehicle was discovered in the area.

Spanish authorities, including the Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, and specialist search squads, are meticulously scouring the area for the man’s location.

An alert for Jesús is still live via the missing persons’ group SOS Desaparecidos. The man is described as being 1.8 metres tall (5 ft 9), slim, with grey hair and brown eyes. Since his car was found, efforts have been focused on the Masca region, the same spot where Jay Slater vanished.

The area, known for its thick greenery and rocky landscape, is infamous for making it tough to find missing individuals – when the 19 year old disappeared, he was eventually located at the bottom of the valley after weeks of searching, reports the Express.

Officials are appealing to anyone who might have seen Jesús or have any additional info that could aid the search to ring 649 952 957 and 644 712 806.

Tenerife has witnessed a surge in missing persons cases, with Jay Slater being the 11th person on the Island to vanish within six months of his disappearance. The Brit holidaymaker got lost in the craggy gorges of Masca in June last year while enjoying the three-day NRG festival with mates.‌

When Slater vanished, a spokesperson characterised the landscape as “a steep, rocky area, full of unevenness and with a multitude of ravines, trails and paths,” cautioning only those with experience in such conditions should participate in the search.

Jay Slater was found after a 29-day search for him ended in tragedy when his body was found in a ravine near where his phone last emitted a ping from.

Locals have expressed disappearances are a frequent occurrence in this region. According to official figures from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, between 2020 and 2023, a staggering 460 adults were reported missing in the Canary Islands.

This alarming statistic places Tenerife second on the list of regions with the highest number of missing persons in Spain, surpassed only by Andaulcia.
