Back in January, NBA legend Dwyane Wade announced the shocking news that he had been battling cancer.
Wade revealed that in December 2023, he underwent surgery to treat a cancerous tumor in his right kidney.
The former three-time NBA champion, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame that same year, told his podcast co-host Bob Metelus he had been experiencing frightening symptoms and the entire ordeal left him at a “weak point” in his life.
“I think it was the first time that my family, my dad, my kids, they saw me weak,” Wade said. “I saw my family that may not always talk, may not always agree. I saw everybody show up for me and be there for me.
“As a man, you never want your family to see you weak. Don’t want to be perceived weak, don’t want to be seen in your weakest moments but I had to.”

The procedure left Wade with 40% of his kidney removed. Thankfully, the former Miami Heat star has been on the mend.
On the February 27 edition of The View, his wife, actress Gabrielle Union was asked by host Sunny Hostin if her husband was “better now.”
“Yes, he’s had the surgery and he’s cancer-free, but it was a challenge,” Union told Hostin.
“You hear cancer [and] you’re paralyzed because you think of the absolute worst-case scenario,” she added. “I’ve had so many friends who are cancer survivors,” she continued. “I didn’t go there; I went to ‘he’s gone.’ ”

Obviously, this situation had to be a terrifying one for Wade and his family.
We’re happy to see him pull through, and Wade indicated back in January that his loved ones helped him tremendously.
“What I saw in the midst of me going through my illness, I saw my family that may not always talk, may not always agree.
I saw everybody show up for me and be there for me and in that process, in my weakness I found strength in my family,” he explained.
