Former NBA star Charles Barkley is deeply saddened by the death of one of his former teammates.

Oliver Miller, a former NBA big man who starred collegiately at Arkansas, died this week. He was just 54 years old. Miller, the Southwest Conference’s Player of the Year in 1992, died suddenly.

The former NBA big man played for several different teams, including the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors.

“The Toronto Raptors are saddened to learn of the passing of Oliver Miller,” the team said in a statement. “He holds a special place in our history as a member of our inaugural team in 1995, and we are so grateful for all his contributions.

“We send our deepest condolences to the Miller family.”

Barkley, who played with Miller in Phoenix, was deeply saddened by his passing.

“Great kid. It’s been a rough week for the NBA family. Oliver, man, he was a great kid. We would not have gotten to the Finals without Oliver Miller. We would not have gotten there.

He was a terrific passer… He was a great kid and man, 53-54 years that’s way too young to be passing away,” Barkley said on Inside the NBA this week.

Miller played with Barkley in Phoenix. He helped lead the Suns to the NBA Finals, before losing to the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls.

he went on to play for the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves.

He was a big-time star in college, helping Arkansas reach the Final Four in 1990.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Arkansas legend Oliver Miller,” Arkansas’s men’s basketball program said in a social media post.

“A key member of the 1990 Final Four team, an SWC Hall of Famer, a first-round NBA draft pick and a true embodiment of the Razorback spirit. We love you Big O. Our thoughts are with his family.”
