Steve Kerr Gets Honest About Kevin Durant Rejecting The Warriors
One big rumor that was making the rounds prior to last week’s NBA trade deadline had Kevin Durant being traded by the Phoenix Suns back to the Golden State Warriors, one of his former teams.
The rumored deal had Durant returning to the Bay with Jimmy Butler going to the Suns, but the deal reportedly fell apart because Durant wasn’t interested in a reunion.
Instead, Butler made his way to the Dubs, while the Suns stood pat.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr seems to understand why the future Hall of Famer didn’t want a second go-around with the Warriors, per Legion Hoops.
“I don’t blame Kevin Durant one bit for not wanting to rerun things here. He took so much s— for like, ‘Oh, you’re jumping on the bandwagon’. And then he’s Finals MVP two years in a row.
It’s like he still gets criticized… So why would he want to face all that B.S. again?”
Durant played his first nine seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder, and it looked like he would be there for perhaps his entire career, especially after he led the Thunder to the 2012 NBA Finals.
But once he became a free agent in 2016, all bets were off, especially since the Thunder had just blown a 3-1 series lead to the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.
When he joined Stephen Curry and the Warriors that summer, it was seen as a weak move, especially since they had won 73 games in the 2015-16 season and taken home the NBA championship the season prior to that.
But they won it all in both of the next two seasons, and they likely needed Durant in order to do so.
There are now rumors that Durant will get traded this summer after the Suns have had to endure a couple of fruitless years with him, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal on their roster.
