As chaos breaks out in Philadelphia, veteran swingman Paul George decided to take a break from his secondary gig as host of the ‘Podcast P’ show.
In an announcement during the most recent episode, George revealed that he’s shutting down the content for the season so he can focus entirely on 76ers basketball.
“I want to let the podcast P family know that after today’s episode with Dwight I plan to take a break from the Pod just to focus on getting my body right getting mentally right and you know help this squad make a a push towards our goal to finish the season out give ourselves a chance to be in contentions to compete for a championship,” said George.

Paul George was last summer’s big signing for the 76ers and he was supposed to help the 76ers create a new big three with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. That hasn’t panned out this season and now, after feeling pressure from the fans, George is shutting down his podcast to show total and complete dedication to his team.
George is hardly the first NBA star to launch a podcast. Draymond Green has a very popular show and he has set the example for NBA podcasters seeing as how he’s currently active on his pod as he helps the Warriors play out this season.
The Podcast P show began back in 2023 when George was still on the Clippers. It has been among the more popular NBA podcasts but now it’s set to be paused for an indefinite time.
We don’t know all that went into the decision, but it comes during what has arguably been the worst season of his entire career.
After signing him to a full four-year, $211.6 million max contract, the 76ers expected George to step up as a reliable scoring option for them.
Instead, he’s been abysmal offensively with averages of 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game on 43.2% shooting. He’s had to get injections in his knee to stay on the court this season and he’s been a shell of who he was just last year with the Clippers.
At one point this season, George had more YouTube clips than field goals made for the 76ers. That’s not to mention the ongoing issues with Joel Embiid, who has missed all but 19 games this season dealing with an injury in his left knee.
To be blunt, Paul George has been a disaster this season and it has put the 76ers in a rough spot. Without a reliable star to keep them afloat in Embiid’s absence, the 76ers are sliding down the standings while looking absolutely lifeless on the court.
Currently losers of eight straight games, the 76ers are down to 12th in the East with a 20-37 record. They are 27.5 games back from the top-seeded Cavaliers but they still have a chance to make a championship push.
The final play-in spot currently belongs to the Chicago Bulls at 23-35, and if the 76ers can make up enough ground on them (2.5 games back) they could secure the 10th seed and earn a ticket to the play-in tournament.
At this point, that outcome is a longshot for the 76ers but the hope is that if Embiid can get healthy and George can lock in to start playing better, it may be enough to give the 76ers a chance to make some kind of noise this spring.
