New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson showed why he’s nicknamed “Captain Clutch” in Wednesday night’s home game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Late in the fourth quarter of the Knicks’ 110-105 win, Brunson took over for New York. He scored 12 of the Knicks’ final 14 points.

Brunson capped off an individual 9-0 run when he drilled a 26-foot three-pointer with the game tied 102-102 and 1:28 left in the fourth quarter.

Brunson finished with 34 points on 8-of-17 shooting in 36 minutes. He also tallied seven assists and three rebounds.

According to SNY’s John Flanigan, Knicks play-by-play announcer Mike Breen calls Brunson “Captain Clutch” as he has delivered late-game heroics throughout the season.

Per NBA.com’s advanced stats, Brunson has averaged 5.5 points in 21 games in the clutch. The NBA defines clutch as shots made in the last five minutes of a game when the score is within five points.

As of Wednesday night, FanDuel Sportsbook gives Brunson the best NBA Clutch Player of the Year odds (+130).

The Knicks (38-20) have won four of their last six games. On Friday, they face the Memphis Grizzlies on the road at 8 p.m. ET. If Brunson continues to step up at the end of games, New York could continue to gain momentum.
