But one eagle-eyed follower has noticed a bizarre detail in the 49-year-old Australian Idol star’s latest gym clip.

Working up a sweat on the tricep pushdown machine, Shannon was wearing unlikely footwear for his fitness session — golf shoes.

‘Yeeehhhhh buddy…the most impressive part of this video is the fact that you’re wearing golf shoes,’ a friend of the star joked in the comments.

‘Getting the pre-round pump. Hopefully you can outdrive me next year!’

‘Ha ha ha you’re 100% right mate! I had planned on nine holes after the gym!’ Shannon replied.

Shannon also revealed he was getting in some fitness before his milestone birthday next month and a fresh series of gigs.

‘Turning 50 next month, training hard and looking forward to the next tour dates!’ he said in the caption.

Fans were impressed with Shannon’s buff appearance in the clip, which saw his bulging muscles pressing hard against his tight red sleeveless gym singlet.

‘You’re already looking great, Shannon,’ gushed one follower, while another commented ‘Hot for 50,’ and added a red love heart emoji.

Last year, Shannon revealed the moment he decided to transform his lifestyle and physical appearance.

The Lift singer told Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie that he started hitting the gym after realising he was ‘getting fat-skinny’.

‘I’ve been back in the gym for a good 18 months now,’ he said.

Host Ryan Fitzgerald asked: ‘Was there a catalyst for that? A moment where you went, “You know what, I’m not happy with the way I’m living my life, and I need to change”?’

‘Yeah, I started getting fat-skinny mate, because I’m naturally skinny anyway, I’ve got skinny legs. If I don’t train and drink… end up looking like E.T.,’ Shannon joked.

‘You get the beer gut,’ Fitzy responded.

Shannon agreed, adding: ‘That’s right… I couldn’t have that, so I thought “I have to get back in the gym”. I train really hard and try to watch what I eat when I’m training.’

Shannon parlayed his early Australian Idol fame into a successful recording and touring career that has seen him release six studio albums.

He has also enjoyed ten ARIA top-ten singles, including chart-toppers What About Me and Shine.
