The pair split in December last year, with Armytage not saying much since confirming the split.

Sam Armytage breaks silence on shock split from Richard Lavendar

Samantha Armytage has broken her silence on her shock split from her businessman husband Richard Lavender, nearly a year after confirming the pair had gone their separate ways.

The beloved TV star spoke to Stellar magazine on Sunday, saying the pair tried to make the marriage work.

“What I’ll say for my marriage is we gave it a go,” Armytage said.

“It didn’t work out, so we moved on.

“Last year was a big year. There was a lot of change and a lot of grief.”

Armytage said the pair gave the decision a lot of thought.

She continued: “I don’t think anybody leaves a marriage without thinking it through quite deeply. You don’t just decide one day and leave the next.

“We’ve all got these thoughts and fears and happy moments we share.”

Last December, the former couple announced they had separated.

It followed reports Armytage had moved out of the couple’s home in the NSW Southern Highlands, returning to her apartment in Sydney.

“Yes, Richard and I have separated. All breakups are hard, but it’s somewhat lessened by the fact it’s amicable and we wish the best for each other,” Armytage told The Daily Telegraph.

“I appreciate you respecting our privacy. I won’t be making any further comment.”

The pair started dating in April 2019, before tying the knot in an intimate New Year’s Eve ceremony at Lavender’s 40-hectare property in 2020.

She had announced their engagement in June of that year, revealing that “Rich” had popped the question.

“We’d been picking weeds in the paddock and he said ‘darling, do you want to marry me?’” she told Sunrise at the time.

“It was very sweet, very romantic. He’s just a very decent, lovely fellow.

“He is totally the opposite of the showbiz world and TV.”

In August, Armytage announced she was leaving the Seven Network after 21 years.

“21 is a coming-of-age,” she began her Instagram post, “And so, after that many years, I am departing Channel 7 with lots of happy memories, a full heart and huge thanks to the many fantastic colleagues along the journey.

“There’s too many highlights to list — I have hosted almost every show in the network (from Sunrise dawn to Farmer’s dusk) — and covered many of the important news stories of the past two decades.

“I started at 7 as a fresh-faced 26-year-old journalist and will leave as a … ahem … more mature-faced woman — who’s worked hard, had THE most incredible experiences and also a lot of fun.”

“I hope I’ve brought a little bit of info and sparkle into your living rooms so far to ALL who watched, thank you for tuning in for so many years. This is not the end, just the end of this chapter.”
