Celebrity Traitors star Alan Carr was previously forced to reunite with former husband Paul Drayton for a heartbreaking reason.

At the time, Paul took to his Instagram stories to share that both he and the comedian made the difficult decision to put their dog Joyce to sleep due to her deteriorating health.

The ex-theatre actor explained that their beloved Irish Red Setter was suffering from a heart condition, but they both adored the dog immensely.

Paul posted a series of nostalgic photos of himself, Alan, and their dog for his followers to see. He wrote emotionally: “Her heart is failing. Ours are breaking! 4.30 tomorrow me and Alan are doing our last act of kindness and letting her go. Thank you for all your lovely messages.”

In another story, he shared a picture of Joyce sitting on Alan’s lap during a flight, captioning it: “This is my favourite photo of Joyce. In 2014 we flew them to France and she was looking out the window thinking ‘wtf is going on now!’”

Sadly, the former couple had to say goodbye to another one of their cherished pets, also an Irish Red Setter named Bev, in May 2022 – just months after they first announced their split in January.

At the time, Paul posted a deeply touching tribute on Instagram, to which Alan responded with a string of broken heart emojis.

The couple split back in May 2022 after a 13-year relationship. Paul had a well-documented struggle with alcoholism and narrowly avoided jail after reversing into a police car with an alcohol test reading ‘off the scale’ in 2022.

Alan cited Paul’s drinking as the ‘final straw’ in their tumultuous relationship, strained due to Paul’s alcohol issues. Now sober, Paul previously marked three years since his drink-driving arrest by sharing a clip of the moment he was taken away by police.

On Instagram, Paul shared footage of his arrest, describing it in a lengthy caption as “the lowest period of his life.”

Meanwhile Alan is set to appear on Celebrity Traitors tonight (October 8). After three successful series, the BBC made the decision to launch a celebrity version of the show.

The comedian, 49, has confessed his strategy to not using comedy and honing in on his former days of working in a call centre in a bid to win the popular BBC game show.

This year will see a range of A-listers including Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church and Kate Garraway as they enter Claudia Winkelman’s castle.

Ahead of the series debut, Alan said: “There will be a different side to me. I’ll have to adapt; no comedy, it’s one of those shows where you have to shape-shift.

“You have to chat to people you wouldn’t normally chat with just to see if they are hiding anything. I don’t think it’s a case of how good you are at being a traitor or a faithful.

“It’s how you adapt and how you draw on your social skills. I’ve worked in a call centre where I had to deal with one thing after another, so I think my call-centre skills are going to come in handy.”
