Meet Bear, aka Barry Myrden!

There is a new leading man on Australian reality TV, and Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden is going to steal hearts on The Golden Bachelor Australia.

As the first Australian Golden Bachelor, there is a lot riding on Bear’s shoulders. But audience enjoyment aside, he is hoping to find love.

More than 20 women are preparing to step out of that glamorous limousine and greet Bear for the first time. But not everyone will get a rose.

And we have been starving for a good rose ceremony ever since The Bachelor was cancelled in 2023!

While appearing on the Today show, Barry revealed what audiences can expect.

“This is for people who are looking for love again. I kind of love that – these are people with life experience, and it’s totally fascinating,” he said.

With The Golden Bachelor premiering in 2025 with Samantha Armytage as host, we are on the hunt to learn more about Barry Myrdren before his television debut.

Who is The Golden Bachelor’s Barry Myrden?

Barry is a 61-year-old infrastructure engineer with the Woolworths group from the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Australia.

He moved to Manly in 1998 with his family, and is originally from Canada.

Who was Barry Myrden previously married to?

Prior to his hunt for love on reality TV, Barry was in a loving marriage with Audrey who sadly passed away in 2011. Together, they share three boys Charlie, Jack and Declan.

According to NetworkCanada, Audrey was diagnosed with a rare and malignant brain cancer in 2009.

During her battle, Audrey appered on A Current Affair, revealing her wish to secure a home for her family.

“The peace of mind that it gives me knowing that the boys, that Barry, have a place of their own,” she said on the program.

In just ten days, hundreds of tradespeople and realtors volunteered their time and materials to build their home.

Who are The Golden Bachelor contestants?

After some encouragement from his sons, Bear is putting his heart on the line in The Golden Bachelor. Fortunately for him, a lot of impressive ladies have signed on to compete.

The list of contestants include radio personalities, doctors, interior designers and one is even the mother to podcaster and TV host, Abbie Chatfield who also starred on The Bachelor back in 2019.
