A seismic shift could be on the horizon for the Montreal Canadiens, as rumors swirl around a possible blockbuster move involving one of the NHL’s brightest young stars: Mason McTavish.

The buzz is everywhere, and the McTavish saga is quickly eclipsing every other storyline this summer, drawing comparisons to last year’s drama with Patrik Laine and the recent speculation around Noah Dobson.

With insiders confirming that Montreal is among the few teams equipped to make a serious offer, the stakes have never been higher.

But what exactly is happening behind the scenes? Which promising Canadiens prospects could be dangled to tempt the Anaheim Ducks, and how far is Kent Hughes willing to go to land that elusive second-line center?

Pierre McGuire’s latest revelation has only added fuel to the fire, hinting at the possibility of a deal that could reshape the team’s future.

Yet, as the situation intensifies, questions remain: Are the Canadiens truly ready to close the loop on their rebuild, or will hesitation cost them a golden opportunity?

As August unfolds, fans and pundits alike are left guessing what surprises might be in store. Dive into the full story to discover the twists, turns, and high-stakes decisions that could define Montreal’s summer.

We have a new development regarding the excellent young center Mason McTavish and the Montreal Canadiens.

The McTavish situation is seriously becoming the biggest storyline of the summer in the NHL in general.

It’s reminiscent of what happened last summer with a certain Patrik Laine.. and of what was going on with Noah Dobson at the start of summer 2025!

His name is everywhere in trade rumors, and it’s often linked to the Montreal Canadiens (for obvious reasons).

McTavish is an excellent young center who would be an ideal second-line center for Martin St-Louis’ squad. He could possibly be the final immediate addition to close the loop on this rebuild that began in 2022 for the Canadiens.

Pierre McGuire Has Just Confirmed That the Montreal Canadiens Have What It Takes to Acquire Mason McTavish

This is significant, because there aren’t many teams that truly have what it takes to acquire Mason McTavish.

It’s really good to hear that the Ducks are seriously interested in certain pieces that could potentially be available in Montreal.

As of August 2025, there are probably only four or five teams that can afford to make a concrete offer for McTavish.

Montreal is among those clubs, as are the Detroit Red Wings.

“Can the Canadiens pull off this trade to acquire McTavish?” – Jimmy Murphy

“Absolutely! Montreal could definitely get this done, but it will all depend on what they’re willing to give up to acquire him, but you’re not getting this guy for free!” – Pierre McGuire

We can imagine that names like David Reinbacher or Michael Hage would have to be involved in any trade with Anaheim (for McTavish), and I’m not convinced Kent Hughes is ready to go there at the moment.

If he were ready to go there, I believe it probably would have already been done.

Unless the Ducks really like players such as Mike Matheson and Kirby Dach?

Will Kent Hughes give us another nice surprise and another big trade in the middle of August?
