At least one prominent NBA star is mourning the news of Hooters’ impending bankruptcy.

Last week, Bloomberg reported that Hooters of America was working with the law firm Ropes & Gray on “restructuring its business” through filing for bankruptcy. The process is expected to begin in the coming months.

Bloomberg previously reported in September 2024 that Hooters was facing $300 million in debt and lagging revenue.

Hooters also closed several “underperforming” locations last year, but insists it will remain in operation and will open new restaurants at home and abroad.

“Despite the closures, Hooters remains confident in its brand, stating that it remains “highly resilient and relevant” after 41 years in business,” said The Express Tribune. “Other casual dining chains, including Applebee’s and Red Lobster, have also faced significant closures.”

While Hooters is clearly trying to avoid shutting down all of its locations for good, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker is still concerned. The 2024 Olympic gold medalist made a plea to the popular restaurant chain on social media this weekend.

“Plz don’t go @Hooters,” Booker tweeted Saturday night.

It definitely does feel like Hooters, and even the iconic “Hooters Girls,” are a bit of a relic of a different era.

At the same time, the chain restaurant seems to have its share of loyal customers. Obviously, Booker has enjoyed his visits there.

In recent years, we’ve seen a number of once-popular fast casual chain restaurants shutter locations and/or file for bankruptcy. It’s a sign of the times as Americans are moving away from frequenting these establishments.

Hopefully, something can be worked out for Hooters so that employees and longtime customers are still satisfied and the corporation can function.
