Earlier today, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis made a very interesting statement about his young forward Joshua Roy.

This was also the subject of an interesting article from TVA Sports and the Journal de Montréal..

“We are not going to hold his hand,” said Martin St-Louis about Joshua Roy.

Basically, St-Louis seems to be saying that Roy will need to become more independent if he wants to become a regular player for the Canadiens one day.. Wow!

“Joshua Roy has every reason to develop independence if he wants to secure a spot with the Canadiens in the medium or long term.”

That’s the conclusion drawn from the Montreal head coach’s comments about Joshua Roy.

Joshua Roy must adopt a true professional attitude if he wants to succeed in the NHL

St-Louis clearly mentioned that he does not want to hold Joshua Roy’s hand at all times, which speaks volumes.

Despite this, head coach MSL seems to have a lot of faith in his young Quebec forward and his talent.

“Roy must not expect us to guide him like parents would with their newborn.”

Personally, I don’t see this statement as negative, but rather as a sign that Martin St-Louis is now focused on winning games rather than watching over his young players, as he might have done more in a pure development year like last season.

It shows that the focus in Montreal is shifting away from development and more toward achieving tangible results.

And what do you think, will Joshua Roy become a regular in the Canadiens’ top 9 one day?
