MasterChef fan favourite Pete Campbell made the surprising announcement this year that he was battling cancer, and as a result, was forced to pull out of the current season of the show to begin treatment. Pete appeared in just two episodes, with judge Andy Allen telling the other contestants during the third episode that he had left the competition for “personal reasons”.

Andy didn’t disclose the exact reason for Pete’s disappearance at the time, but said, “Due to personal reasons, Pete is unable to continue in the competition. And we wish him nothing but the best.”

Pete first made the announcement in January, sharing a photo after shaving off his long locks, with the caption reading: “New look for my cancer/chemo era… Hodgkins lymphoma, you dog.”

Now, six months later, Pete has announced he is “cancer-free”. The chef shared several snaps from the last few months, including a few with his wife, Alana, and their two daughters, Scout and Lux.

“Thank you for all the messages and check ins, sorry if I didn’t write back, I had cancer,” he added.

Many MasterChef stars shared their excitement over Pete’s announcement, with Minoli Desilva writing, “Yes mate, f**king yes.”

“You’re a beast,” Justin Narayan added.

“Yassss Pete, you legend! Love you mate,” Depinder Chhibber said.

“F**k yeah,” Khanh Ong wrote. “Congratulations so happy for you.”

“This is the best news Pete,” Steph de Sousa agreed. “Cheers to good health and happiness from now on.”

Pete’s other friends and followers also share well wishes, with one person writing, “Awww! Prayers answered! I’m crying! Just so so happy for you and your girls..sending love xoxo.”

“Great news mate. You’re an inspiration,” another wrote.

“So very happy to read this, Pete,” a third said.

Speaking with Woman’s Day early this year, Pete revealed that the diagnosis was a “complete shock”. He said, “I was concerned about swollen lymph nodes in my neck that were checked and biopsied over a period of more than a year and cleared as not an issue.

“Eventually a haematologist suggested removing a lymph node for thorough analysis and this was when the Hodgkin’s lymphoma was discovered.”

He added, “The diagnosis was a complete shock. Given I had no other symptoms and felt completely healthy, I asked (kinda begged) the doctor if I could start treatment after the competition.

“She told me I’d possibly die and that’s when the severity of the situation really hit me and replaced the disappointment. From there I just wanted to start treatment as soon as possible and get better for my family.”
