The Block is back again for its 21st season this year, and fans have been vocal that in recent years, the show has gone in a direction they’re not too happy with. That is, there’s too much drama seemingly created by producers, and many people also believe that the show, which is meant to be about renovating, has more recently become a show about decorating.

This year, fans were left surprised when they discovered all five houses have identical floor plans, which host Scott Cam said would put teams “under more pressure than ever” to make winning decisions. Viewers have also been left annoyed that in week one, the drama has already started with two teams having to remove tiles from their bathroom due to an error that should have been noticed much earlier, leading many to believe it was orchestrated deliberately by producers.

Taking to Facebook, one viewer wrote, “The Block is done & dusted, I think this will be the last series. Absolutely ridiculous now, hasn’t been good for a number of years now – which is a shame, used to be a great show.”

Many others agreed, with another replying, “Bring back the old format and contestants who are nice to each other. Sick of shows with idiots, nastiness and bullying. There is enough of that behaviour without having to watch it on TV.”

They added, “Get rid of Scotty and [Foreman] Dan, too. Would never buy anything the show does. It is far too rushed to do a proper job.”

“I’ve actually changed the channel when it gets annoying, I used to love The Block, [now it’s] more about drama than building and designing,” a third said.

“Yeah, I went back to MasterChef lol. It’s just become so woke and ridiculous,” someone else added.

“I agree, its days are numbered,” another added ominously.

“I am so disappointed with the way this show has headed and is no longer a building show, it’s just a glorified designing show assisted too much by all of the professional consultants,” one viewer said. “Not enough input or efforts from the contestants. And the way it is filmed is more about drama than building. Yes, I know, vote with my feet, so I will. I shall not watch this year.”

“After last season and all the drama and bullying I refuse to give this show another minute of my time,” yet another said. “Used to love it back at the start, but now it’s not about building or renovating at all…”

“First time ever, I’m not watching,” someone else added. “I would rather watch old re-runs.Its a totally different show, it’s rubbish.”

Others didn’t agree, however, with one person writing, “I actually like the changes implemented this year and am liking it.”

“I reckon it’s still a great show! Last year’s wasn’t the best, sure, but for the most part I’m enjoying most of the couples so far anyway,” another agreed.

“I’m liking the changes so far this year,” a third wrote. “It seems to be heading back to more of a design challenge. It’s been so unfairly weighted in the past few years – due to which builder you found, and what trades you could find. Finding this year a much better organised, planned and fair game.”

“It’s never EVER been a building show – always about designing a room – thats why judges are two designers with a real estate guys, previously three designers,” someone else said.

Look, it’s unlikely the show will be cancelled, but maybe they could implement some changes to improve next year?
