MasterChef fans were left stunned on Sunday when it was revealed that Sarah Todd, 37, and Declan Cleary, 27, have been in a secret relationship while competing on this year’s season of the show. Speaking to Stellar Magazine, Declan shared that he and Sarah “instantly got along and started spending a lot of time together” when they began filming.
“Nothing was ever rushed or forced – we just enjoyed spending time together,” he added. “And Sarah, being from Melbourne, knew all the places to go. So we’d go to the beach, or go-karting, and we went out for lots of dinners.”
He shared that it was only when Sarah was facing an elimination challenge that he realised he felt more than just a friendship.
“And so, as she’s walking into the elimination [challenge], I said, ‘Sarah, can I ask you something? Would you like to go on a date with me?’ And she just looked at me and said, ‘You’re a bloody idiot!’”
After taking a few days to think about it after the elimination challenge, Sarah agreed, with the pair spending a “very romantic” weekend away in Grampians National Park.
The pair posed for a photoshoot together for the publication and shared that Declan has moved from his northern beaches home in Sydney to Sarah’s home with her 14-year-old son, Phoenix.

While fans were ecstatic to see Declan and Sarah together, some were left a little confused by the photoshoot.
“I thought this was AI,” one person said. “I’m not sure how I feel about seeing Declan with Sarah in her undies. But it’s cute they are together.”
“Same thoughts!” another agreed, while a third said, “I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this is AI.”

Some even suggested they already knew Declan and Sarah were together, with one person writing, “I bloody guessed this weeks ago!! You could tell!”

“Saaame! The chemistry is so obvious on screen,” a third added. “It’s lovely. They are obviously very happy.”

MasterChef also shared a sweet video of the pair on the show, along with Hugh Grant’s Love Actually speech, with one viewer joking, “My son just pointed out that MasterChef is a better place to find love than MAFS!”
“I can’t stop watching,” another added. “Those sneaky looks and giggles. Ohhh, my heart!! Nice seeing them again.”

MasterChef judge Poh Ling Yeow joked, “I somehow missed this even though it was happening right in front of my eyes but couldn’t be happier for you.”
Sofia Levin also added, “Like I’ve always said, ‘Find someone who looks at you the way @declancleary looks at seafood.’”
