It’s the biggest night on The Block… but first, it’s time to panic!
Before they can swap their high vis for swanky attire for the Domain Listing Challenge, they’ve got another days work ahead of them.
And while they should be working towards delivering two complete rooms in their guest suite come Sunday, the $50,000 Domain prize has really taken over everyone’s attention.
The only house on track at all is House 4.
Come Sunday, it could be a one horse race. Does that even still count as a race?
In House 2, Han and Can’s stress levels are through the roof. It’s not helped by Britt and Taz dressing their driveway with plants and a sauna, while House 2’s is giving worksite chic.
Stunning. (Nine)
To add insult to injury, Foreman Dan points out the difference and swiftly gets his head bitten off.
Everyone’s pulling out the big stops to impress the potential buyers, from House 4’s $260,000 caravan to House 1’s bonus rooms under the house.
One of which is a wine cellar.
And THAT makes Robby’s fancy new sign very awkward.
WELP. (Nine)
Finally, it’s time to kick off their work boots and put their selling caps on as 100 locals and potential buyers arrive for the potentially game-changing night.
Vibes are high right across the site as the teams soak up the positive feedback and the buyers soak up their interiors (and the drinks on offer).
Down in House 1, Shelley Craft is surprised to learn of Emma and Ben’s cellar plans.
None of their competitors are aware of the plan just yet, as evidenced by House 5’s grand unveiling of the big hole in their backyard in front of many happy guests.
But secrets don’t stay secrets for long, and Robby’s caught wind of House 1’s plan.
It’s his job to tell Mat and it goes, well, like this:
This is fine. (Nine)
“Get your own ideas! You can’t win a thing so you copy our ideas,” he reacts.
As the public cast their votes, the boys fill Sonny and Alicia in on the news.
Then they pull Emma and Ben over and have it out. Politely.
“Copying is the biggest form of flattery,” Robby says.
“I’m glad you’re flattered,” Ben replies.
What a night it’s been.
All that’s left to do is the important part: find out who’s won the buyers over and earned themselves $50k.
Scotty reveals each teams’ percentage of the vote:
Emma and Ben: 24
Han and Can: 13
Britt and Taz: 21
Sonny and Alicia: 19
Robby and Mat: 23
Huge!!! (Nine)
By just one percent, Emma and Ben are finally feeling like winners – and it’s a damn good thing to win!
The couple are stoked, of course, while the boys do a not-very-good attempt at pretending they’re not salty about it.
The comically large winners’ bouquet comes with lots of cash and a secret advantage: a gnome! We can’t help but wonder… is it really Dayle S. Ford or just his unofficial cousin Russell?
Because this could get very awkward!
Remember Mat’s fake gnome… (Nine)
Unsurprisingly, the festivities continue long into the night.
McCafé turns into a nightclub and there are some serious shapes being cut.
Not all good ones. (Nine)
Amongst the twerking, Britt attempts to apologise to Alicia. She thinks it goes fine, while Alicia isn’t so sure.
On Friday morning, it’s clear Britt and Taz have no chance of completing their ensuite this week unless they can a specific rapid set waterproofing.
Turns out, what they need is right next door with the Cursio brothers.
Adrian Cursio offers to instruct House 3’s waterproofer on what to do, but as he’s technically contracted to House 4, he needs the all-clear from Sonny and Alicia.
“Nup,” Alicia answers without hesitation.
We saw that coming!
After Taz claimed all the timber in the sawmill, which impacted their landscaping plans, she’s not willing to lend them a hand.
“It’s a two-way street, what comes around goes around,” she says.
House 4 are still the only ones on track to finish this week, and the others have banded together to beg Foreman Dan and Aidan to extend lockout by two hours tonight.
They’re open to the idea as long as it’s unanimous. Uh oh, we know where this is going!
Of course, Alicia vetos the plan, with a sly “game on b—hes” that earns a big laugh.
Sabotage! (Nine)
As Domain winners, Emma and Ben join Shelley and National Property Editor Alice Stolz for lunch to talk all things real estate listings.
Alice explains that their likely buyer is a retiree or older generation, so their plans for a kids space will probably be lost on them.
It’s helpful info, with Emma and Ben immediately shifting their plans going forward.
Britt and Taz have managed to track down some fast-setting waterproofing and completely covered their ensuite… only for it to fail GMac’s inspection.
They vow to keep going tomorrow, but the odds are very much stacked against them completing their space this week.
Those extra two hours would’ve come in handy, wouldn’t they?
Not that House 4 mind.
“This is a game, we’re playing it,” Sonny concludes.
On Sunday, the race to Room Reveal is on – but not everyone is going to make it.
From exposed waterproofing to incomplete painting, we predict an all-time roast from the judges. See you there!
